Thanks It was kind of meh, it was just transitioning to the bachelors from associates, and they were implementing an active learning approach for someone's doctorate which failed miserably. However, after they did away with that it has improved each semester. Don't know much about the CRNA program, but know quite a few whom have gone through the PA program and liked it so...

Well I'm actually still in school to become a RN :) I do plan on saving most of my money when I do work as a RN for CRNA school; I don't want to take out too many loans.

Most of the programs are moving to a doctorate from a masters. No more anesthesia classes are needed, just more classes like management and epidemiology. It does lengthen the program by a few months and also increases the tuition. Although, like a previous poster said, lsu still has a lower tuition than most programs.

So you haven't even started nursing but you already know you hate it so much you want to go back to school? If it's for the money there's easier ways to make money, and better money.

I know people who went to both and they all make lots of money now. So, I don't really think it matters.

Good path. I wish I would have done nursing school when I was younger. Do you plan on doing any travel nursing when you graduate?

I've heard they can make up to $150k. I'm sure the don't start out at that much though. I know one girl who finished a few years back and able to afford a nice Audi and 300k house on her on.

I doubt many are making above the $150k stated. Unfortunately, CRNA schools are pumping out graduates and they're beginning to oversaturate themselves.

It's pretty standard for a CRNA to make $150k and up. There is actually a private practice in Alexandria hiring CRNAs with minimum pay $150k. There is another one in Shreveport with minumum pay 200k, and maximum 230k.

When did I say I hated nursing? Are you insinuating that all nurses who go back to school to further their education "hate nursing?"

I would go to LSU to prevent tons of students loans from OLOL.

He is likely just referring to the fact that you are not even a nurse yet. So you don't even know if you will truly love nursing or not.

Nursing school is nothing like the real world. It's great you are looking ahead for your future. Are you prepared to work as a nurse for several years first before you can even apply to CRNA school?

Yes I was thinking the same thing, but then I have to take in consideration the expenses that would come with moving to New Orleans. I already live in BR, so if I did go to OLOL I could live with my parents, not to mention the 1st two semesters are online, so I could keep my job. Ahhhh so many factors LOL

Yes, OLOL requires minimum of 1-year full-time (2 years preferred) recent experience as a registered nurse in an adult intensive care unit and LSU requires minimum of one year, full-time, critical care experience within the previous two (2) years at the time of application to the program.

You also have to factor in that you may not be able to get a job right out of nursing school into a critical care setting as well. So you might have to work your way into an ICU position. Also, I would imagine you are competing with other nurses for admission that could have more years of experience that would give them a leg up on chances of being accepted.

When do you finish nursing school? You have anything that will help you get a nursing job upon graduation(already work as a tech/CNA in a hospital? connections to get a job?)?

Good luck! Nursing is a great field in that there are so many ways to branch out and grow if bedside nursing isn't what you want to do long term

That's one of the reasons I wanted to become a nurse, so many oppurtunities!

*I have looked at the competitiveness that I will be faced with going up against nurses who have more critical care experience, and I think I'll just apply every year to I get in... worth the shot lol ??
*I graduate in the Fall of 2018.

*I have volunteered/job shadowed in the PACU & Mother Baby Unit at Woman's Hospital, and in the NICU at Ochsner Medical Center. I have my CNA certification, and plan to work as a CNA during the summer, probably at Woman's Hospital; mainly due to the fact, that I interviewed there for a CNA position, and would have gotten the job, but I was only 17 at the time (18 is the minimum age requirement). Then once I'm a junior in nursing school, I'll probably work as a nurse tech, and hopefully establish some connections!
*If you don't mind me asking, what nursing school did you graduate from?
