F**k Danny. I am glad that thing is weakening. Last Cat 3 to hit St. Maarten tore that island a new arsehole and it still hasn't recovered almost 15 years later. Plus with the drought the ground is rock hard they are already issuing flash flood warnings out the wazoo. It is hitting as I type this but nothing special so far since it is a TS.

Does Danny have a clearing effect on the dry wind that could open the path for the soon-to-be Erika?
You're there rn? What's it like?

Erika's going to have a lot more atmospheric moisture to work with, and the upper level trough that sheared Danny to bits has a chance of weakening a bit before Erika gets there.
Danny didn't weaken it though... just the normal ebb and flow of the atmosphere. Danny did help mix up the atmosphere a bit to get more moisture into the mid levels, so I guess it'll help Erika in that regard.

Coolio. Should be neat to watch it form.

Hurricane Danny: 8/22/15 made me check my generator. Never Forget.

Danny went from a category 3 hurricane to a trough of low pressure in just a couple days. Dry air and very strong wind shear gave this storm a good old fashioned arse-whooping. Erika is about to generate behind him, though, and from all indications, she will almost certainly be one for the southeast Atlantic coast to watch. The door for her to end up in the Gulf isn't closed but it's not likely.

if danny forms back into something say in GOM or wherever, does it revert back to danny or go to F?

it won't come back together most likely.
all clear for Punta Cana

Just for shits and giggles, the GFS (a terrible tropical model), is hinting at it reforming in the Gulf and heading for Florida.

oh I misunderstood Chad.
Yeah it'll still be Danny.
See Hurricane/Tropical Storm Ivan:
Hurricane Ivan hit Mobile, stayed over land and lost tropical characteristics but the feature stayed more or less discrete and meandered its way back into the gulf where it became Tropical Depression Ivan all over again.
I remember laughing out loud the first time I saw the old GFS model forecast this
