quote:Maybe if you're referring to working a shite job while in undergrad, but I worked while going to grad school, and while my wife was in grad school. I paid 70k+ out of pocket for our graduate degrees combined. shite like forgiving student loans pisses me off, because I saw the sacrifices we had to make while in school to make that possible, while I saw my wife's classmates take out student loans while going on trips, driving nicer vehicles, etc...
With the costs of school these days, working through college barely takes care of anythong.
It's absurd to bailout irresponsible people. Fix the problem, not the symptoms. I could see forgiving interest on student loans, but it's horseshite to forgive principle.
On a go-forward basis, I would be okay with interest free government loans for education, but they shouldn't be dischargeable, and they should be capped at something like 40k total in ones lifetime. If they placed a lower cap on student loans that could be taken out, it could force universities to lower tuition costs. As it works currently, the universities have no incentive to keep costs low, and actually have incentive to increase tuition into perpetuity.

So instead of the students working to pay off their debt, the responsibility is being transferred to the American people. GREAT

Because every college town is just teeming with $30k per year part time jobs for people with little to no experience.

I'd still rather work my way through and actually earn it. You want to make a college degree even more worthless? Make it free, that will do it.

Yeah. If only these lazy kids without an undergrad degree would get a salary job like you did after you earned a degree, then they wouldn’t be in debt. Makes perfect sense.

You are free to do that.
Cut a check to the barista or waitress or teacher etc.
Nothing in the Constitution allows for bullshite like this.

I have no problem with people taking out loans, but I think they should be more heavily regulated and there needs to be some other adjustments there. You shouldn't be able to take out 100k+ in student loans, while simultaneously living a life where you can travel, dine out, and have other luxuries. Then on top of that, complain that you have to pay the money back that you took a loan out for

So you’re saying that you didn’t say any of the direct quote from you above? Awesome that you paid for grad school while working with a job you got having an undergraduate degree. Not sure how you think undergrads can do the same or get more than a “shite job” since they are in school to get a degree.

Why would you pay 4x the minimum payment? That's like throwing money away.

Not as big as the people who didn't go to college because they didn't want to take out the loans. Now they are getting nothing and getting left further behind.

quote:My point was that there are some instances where you can work while in school and actually pay for school. That's it. I didn't say that everyone can do that, I never implied that. I just stated that you can't also say with 100% certainty that working while is school is practically useless, which was basically what the person I was responding to said.

Undergrads aren't the only people who are taking out student loans.
It's like you didn't read any of my post. I even proposed an adjusted version of what we currently have for student loans that I feel would be more fair to students (no interest, caps on the amount you can receive).

quote:why are all the responsible tax payers in the country on the hook for complete strangers' completely optional student loans?
Why would you assume that everyone holding student loan debt is/was irresponsible?
why isn't everyone chipping in to pay my mortgage? i decided i wanted to own a home, completely optional and didn't ask all the taxpayers first if it was ok, but shouldn't they be paying for my personal decisions?
why just "student loans"? maybe i need to take out an auto loan for a vehicle i can't afford and demand everyone help me pay for it. how is that different?

Liberals sure do hate them some personal responsibility.
Posted on 2/5/21 at 8:39 am to noonan
they want to forgive student loans because they want to encourage everyone to go to college. that's where the most saturated liberal indoctrination takes place, and they need to make it as accessible and regret-free as possible.
mortgages? auto loans? nah, those have nothing to do with exposure to liberal beliefs. only one trivial kind of loan is being considered out of the many possible loans a person can take on.

so after 2020 someone an associates degree or a bachelor's degree will be absolutely worthless. seems like a solid plan.
but it makes sense with the class warfare going on in this country and the amount of stupid people who buy into it.
