Hopefully Universal decides to start their third park back up soon. It will be unreal
The videos from Super Mario World in Japan are unreal, Harry Potter quality or better. They do an entire park at that level and it will smash Disney as the immersion king. Universal really stepped up their game with HP.

Never understood how so many people are fascinated with either. If wait times are 1-3 hours for a 2-3 minute ride, in a hot 12 hour day you only ride at best 6-7 rides for 15 minutes of adrenaline rush. I hate waiting 30 seconds for a traffic light to turn green. And I’m not miserable of a person, lol!

Sometimes having to stand in line without phones forces kids to talk (esp teens).

We like to play heads up in line. You'll see a lot of people playing that in line. Also the play disney app is fun.

Neither. Why would you spend your hard earned money at some cheesy park where you spend half of your time waiting in lines, surrounded by fat trashy people? Sounds horrible. Not to mention Disney is liberal AF now. To each his own though.

Trips to either park are a once in a blue moon event for my family. Don’t see the point of constantly going.
Disney World has few, if any, of the rides I experienced as a kid. They’ve all be replaced by rides based on movies I have not seen. As such, I get no personal satisfaction or nostalgia from going. Trips these days are meant for the little kids to have some fun.

These folks had a VIP party package they bought and could not get in. Not sure about location of stay, but they were told guaranteed entry too.

As someone who knows Disney very well (Disney fan and I live in Central Florida) the thing that gets me about Disney is the loss of non-IP attractions.
Harry Potter at Universal didn't cause it but it definitely accelerated it. Every new attraction has to be an IP now (Intellectual Property aka tied to a movie). I think Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom was the last non-IP attraction that Disney has built.
I agree with most of the posts here that (prior to Covid) Disney was better in terms of the overall park atmosphere, park maintenance, shows and attractions for kids and adults who aren't big into coasters. What Disney has done to their Entertainment department and slashing shows has been sad to see. Still, Universal has very few shows. Universal is better in terms of rides for older kids and theme park junkies.
As someone who lives in the area and has seen enough of both, they are both way overpriced for what you get.

I don't know the terms of the Marvel Universe between Disney, Sony and Universal Studios, but Isle Of Adventure has a death grip on it's rights to Marvel IP. They must be holding out for a fortune from Disney. They have spiderman, Cap A, X-men represented and they haven't updated that area of the park in well over a decade.

Disney, little kids.
Universal, big kids.
Universal, big kids.

Here's the irony though. Universal now has to pay Disney for the rights to anything Marvel. So yes Universal has exclusive rights in Florida to properties like the X-Men, Hulk, Spider-Man and Captain America. But they have to pay Disney for the rights to all those Marvel rides and Disney gets a percentage of all Marvel merchandise that Universal sells in its stores. There is a good amount of irony to it. That's why you've seen Universal move away from Marvel and why it's so dated.
The terms between Disney and Universal when it comes to Marvel only apply to Florida. Disney has no such Marvel restrictions in other parks (California, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai or Paris) so you will see more Marvel stuff at those parks first. The other thing to remember is that Universe only has the exclusive rights in Florida to the properties they use. That's why Disney is building Guardians of the Galaxy at Epcot. Universal never used that property and therefore never had the rights to it.
Heck Marvel Studios itself just recently reacquired the X-Men rights. Fox Studios had it for a long time. That's why the X-Men have been absent from the Marvel Universe since Disney took over.

Me. If you had said Six Flags I'd agree. I used to love Six Flags. The one in San Antonio isn't horrible.
I would say Destin is Disney, PCB is Universal and Biloxi is Sea World.

I've been in some of the busiest days and rarely wait more than an hour. It's fun and the kids love it.
We did 7 rides by lunch time on Thanksgiving and Mardi Gras last year which was the most crowded Magic Kingdom days I've ever experienced.

I feel like the prices are high to act as something of a filter and I'm honestly okay with that.

The terms are simple. West of the Mississippi Disney has the theme park rights to marvel. East of the Mississippi Universal does.
That's the honest truth. Marvel long ago wasn't worth much and had sold off all kinds of rights.
This is COMIC rights only. Universal has no rights to any marvel studios IP.
the merch they sell is all comic style.

quote:I couldn't disagree any more. You have it backwards. I would agree with that statement if talking about Universal. Disney is geared towards little kids. Universal is geared towards the teenage on up crowd.
if your child isn't old enough to get on a ride by themselves, you shouldn't take them with you if you want to have a good time. You are wasting a trip taking kids who need constant supervision. That will suck the fun out of the whole experience.

Universal’s wait times are wayyy overstated. If the wait time listed was under 30 mins, it was basically a walk on. If it said an hour, it was 30 mins or less. At least that was my experience a couple weeks ago. Disney wait times were fairly accurate or slightly overstated. I don’t think I’ve ever waited longer than the stated time, unless the ride went down. And in that case, they will give you a return ticket the equivalent of a fast pass.
