Grew up with them, never had one because of lack of time needed to work on such a project along with having no where to work on one. Have always wanted a 1st or 2nd generation corvette.

As one poster wrote, it has alot to do with what you grew up with. If you grew up in late 70's, 80's, or 90's, what cars would you really want to restore? Seriously.

Camaros until 83. 300Z's. Monte Carlos. Not too much more than that. I mean, who wants to restore an Eclipse or Mustang from that era? It's also when GM adopted that stupid one look for all models BS that damn near bankrupted them. The caddy's, Olds, buicks all looked alike by design for awhile.

Mustang from that era?

Late 80's to early 90's Foxbody Mustangs are some of the best bang-for-the-buck cars to restore. Try finding an unmolested 1990's 5.0 notchback, I had a green 1993 and wish I'd kept it as just the chassis and body are worth more than I paid for the whole car in 2002. A mint 1993 Cobra R went for about $20k not too long ago, a ragged out non-R Cobra a friend of mine had sold for $9,000. I'd love to find a clean roller and drop the new 7.3L Godzilla and a Tremec Magnum in it.

Why do people do this? So dumb.
What's dumb about getting a slightly used (less than 25k miles), one or two year old model vehicle?

Another person that has no idea how old millennials actually are. Millennials were getting their first cars in the mid nineties to early 2000s. Anyone getting their first car from their parents as a 2020 is about 12 years too young to be a millennial

Apparently all of you missed my point. I used the current date to express buying a car that was brand new. If I would have just said some random year in 2000 or the 90s, you would have had no idea how old the car was that they were getting at that time.

That ones on my list as well.

Last solid F-series. The new ones are better in other ways but that was the last of the bank vault doors and indestructible diesels.

Yes problem is a good number of us can't afford them and the ones that can rather buy newer ones anyway

Also, millennials, especially younger ones, don’t have the same relationships with their cars that previous generations did. Cell phones and smart phones largely destroyed the freedom that cars used to represent for teens. Parents are constantly in touch, people rarely go cruising for chicks because cliques don’t need regular set public meet up spots to hang out anymore with social media. Cars are literally just a means to get one from point a to point b, and occasionally a place to f$&k. Plus, young people uber rather than drive when they go out to avoid DUI’s, so they don’t even have a car with them to “flex” with. To gen x and boomers, cars represented freedom. To gens y and z, they represent chores, responsibilities, bills, errands, etc.

Man.. freaking ALL of this. As usual, smart phones and social media have ruined everything. And I’m 30, so no boomer here.

I say this as I type on a message board, via smart phone. FML.

Redbone what are u saying? Old muscle cars have over 500HP?
You were referring to BB h.p. and then presenting mostly small block info.

Second problem: You seem to know nothing about the cheating they were doing back in the day.

Fast forward to today: Rebuilt BBs almost all use aftermarket parts that increase the h.p.

My example is BB that you speak of but seem to not know. Chev L88 427 claiming 430 h.p. was over 557. 426 Hemi rated 426 h.p. was 470. 428 Cobra Jet rated 335 h.p. was rated 390 by NHRA. It was actually 410 h.p.

Any that have been rebuilt are usually more powerful than those numbers.

I am Gen X. I am in to cars. One of my sons was born in 99. He's in to cars...so are his friends. Another son born in 05, and he's in to cars too.

If you are in to cars and you know someone from a younger generation who is not you are doing a disservice to him and America.
