I like to think I'm saving up my good karma so I can do something really bad someday.

I've never understood it when people who don't believe in God go on about the karma of someone else. I would think the universe doesn't give a crap one way or the other.

Hinduism
Sikhism
Buddhism
Jainism
Shintoism
Taoism

All believe in Karma, but do not believe in God.

that is me as well. When I work and things go bad I can't curse or get upset, in my shop I'm having tantrums.
I really don't have many issues IRL anymore.

I don't really believe in the divine aspects of Karmic retribution. Just a inner feeling of peace.
In the in it's our perception of ourselves that will shape our lives the most.

I have done some bad things in my life and I try to think I have made amends for most of them.
Now I really try and do good.
Like if and when I do charitable work it is never for tax reasons. I really get a sense of joy from helping someone with a problem, even if that help means that they won't need my paid service. IDK.

I had a customer the other day and we were talking about this site and I told him who I was. And he was like "you are a super-liberal a-hole on that site. Nothing like that IRL." So I was thinking about that.
As there is no real anonymity.

Hindus have a pantheon of gods. And Shinto literally means 'way of the gods'.

Maybe 'Creator' is a better word to use.

The question I have is why do so many Christians believe in karma? It's diametrically opposed to Christianity. Christ died for our sins so that we do not receive what we deserve.

I'm thinking that if it's true we weren't created, and we weren't put here for some purpose, then nothing we do matters. So that feeling of peace you talk about would be an illusion, or the byproduct of growing up in a traditionally religious society.

I've always thought the biggest appeal of not believing in a god is being free to do whatever you want as long as you have the will and the strength. It seems crazy to abandon one's god-belief if one is just going to act like he exists anyway.

And I'm not trying to tell anyone how to live their lives, it's definitely none of my business. Just making a general observation.

What? I believe that a person should be good. And live a good life. I do not believe in any deity. I don't think I act like he exists. Except around the kids. (have to raise them good catholics)

The biggest appeal to not believing in God is belief that there is no higher authority and you are essentially god-like. It's original sin and traces back to the first book of the Bible.

I find that most believers have an improper belief of non-belivers. We are just like you, we just don't believe in the bible. Same as you don't believe in the Koran or Hinduism.

All religions lead an example to follow a good and just life. (even Satanism ironically)
Some believe we can do just that without fear of divine retribution. As it isn't the promise of heaven that motivates, but the fear of eternal damnation.

There is a new covenant called the New Testament. Jesus died for our sins. He didn't die for the "worthy" or "righteous", he died for all who believe.

religion threads are not allowed. I can continue but I wanted to talk personal Karma. I suggest we not go down this route.
But, I think the book of revelations differs from your understanding of the mater.
