The degradation of our culture has led to some really shallow and terrible films that include the usual amount of gender/ race pandering.
Just look at modern art and music. The decline of America is staring us right in the face.

Movies suck these days. It's all boom or bust, there are no "mid tier" movies anymore. Everything has to be a big budget blockbuster now.
The worst part of it all, is Hollywood believes they are making the best movies they've ever made, and we just don't understand them.

I haven’t watched 25 movies in the last decade.

Is this the thread where boomer try and act like they're somehow cooler by not liking new movies it's like the OT version of not like the other girls up in here

Dunkirk and 1917 were the last two movies I saw at the movies. Nothing really piques my interest other than war movies.
I’ve never been a fan of any of the marvel/DC movies and never understood how the whole world gets so entertained by them. It seems like it all started with Ironman and Spider-Man in the mid 2000s and filmmakers just keep pumping another one out year after year.

Older millennial here. Most theatre releases suck.

Those movies appeal to the lowest common denominator. Usually the people I know who like Fast & Furious are also dumbasses.

The problem is that humans only respond to a handful of narrative structures. Before mass production provided by today’s media, those narratives were relatively rarely encountered and could still evoke reactions. Nowadays we are carpet-bombed daily with the same narratives, so they all seem stale.
Also, production costs are so cheap today. This means production values are crazy good, but narrative structure is flabby. Look at a movie from the 40’s. Story-telling is crazy efficient and good, but editing is slow, lots of long takes, and production values are mediocre. Today production values are very good. Editing is completely different. Very rapid. Today’s editing would completely bewilder a moviegoer from the 40’s. But dramatic impact hasn’t kept up with over-saturation of some narratives.

At least F&F promotes la Familia.

I disagree there are a lot of good movies still being produced over the past 5 years (Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, The Gentlemen, Dunkirk, BlacKKKlansman, Hacksaw Ridge, Hell or High Water, 1917, The Irishman, Ford vs Ferrari, The Martian)
None of these are remakes, comic book movies, or sequels and all came out fairly recently.

Fellow Millennial.
Same with music. Zoomers will never know the hard work you had to go through to find Peter Gabriel's Melt album in a secondhand vinyl shop, instead of finding it on Spotify for one click.
Speaking of which

No your favorite genre just isn't dominating the charts. Plenty of good music in genres like rock that you have to dig for

Be prepared to be disappointed. From what I've seen, it's been nuked.

I agree that all of those were good, other than The Irishman. Haven't seen BlacKKKlansman.
That's a pittance, though, compared to just some individual years in previous decades. I also hate the fact that comedy has basically died as a genre.

I’m done watching ‘new’ movies.
I hate Hollywood and there’s already enough released to last a lifetime.
Actually going to a movie theater is another thing I’ll never do again (it’s been about 3 or 4 years already).
