backwards arse cajuns were called coonasses by the non-French-speaking American soldier, either out of jealousy, or invidious jest, began to harass the Louisiana soldier by calling him "coonass" as a take-off on the word conasse used by the French forces. The French noun conasse is defined as:"a stupid woman or man
no.... That’s the official take on the origin of the word – a vulgar ethnic slur. But it’s not correct, Bernard says. He found a photo from the National Archives taken in April 1943 of a plane called the “Cajun Coonass.” The photo was taken before the allied invasion of France. “Because there were no Cajuns in France or any Americans in France until June 6, 1944, which is D-Day, that means that if the connasse theory were true, it had to have been created sometime after D-Day because you had to have Cajuns in France to be called connasses,” Bernard says. “Presumably you had to have some extended period of time for the word to morph into coonass.” Bernard says he’s found other references to the word predating D-Day, as well. As far as he’s concerned, no one can be sure where the expression came from. Whatever its origins, coonass isn’t a slur these days to people like Angie Sonnier. I found Sonnier on a rainy afternoon taking shelter beneath a roof of a Shop Rite store in Duson, Louisiana. The store sells bumper stickers and T-shirts with a “Registered Coonass” logo on them. Sonnier doesn’t care about tracing the history of the term “coonass.”

No, I didn't keep reading because I couldn't get past the stupidity of your first post without feeling the need to educate you a little.

Right. Because that person was born to Cajun people. Not rednecks or Yankees.

this comes from 1940...maybe it was the American REvelution War...where your story begins.
Angered that Vincent had dropped out of the union, Ventura approached Vincent during their lunch break on January 10, 1940, and berated him for refusing to pay his union dues. When Vincent asked to be left alone, Ventura — according to Vincent's written statement to Shell Oil of five days later — barked:
"I'm through with you, you coon-arse son-of-a-bitch, I'll meet you at the gate at 4:30. I want to whip your God-damned arse."

But rednecks are not cajun therefore cannot have cajun children.
Posted on 5/11/15 at 4:27 pm to lsupride87
Correct, the only true Cajuns are the ones who can trace their ancestry back to the Acadia region of Nova Scotia when the British kicked them out. Take Avoyelles Parish for example, it is full of French speaking people and French surnames but very few "Cajuns" as most of the families trace the roots directly back to France and not through Canada.

I think what Cades was asking is can anyone living in Miss/Bama claim to be Cajun even though they have no ties to south La.
