It just seems wrong to me to lock an animal in a small cage for long periods of time.

I felt the same way. I left my dog in my back yard all day while I was at work for about the first 8 months of his life and even dealt with him chewing everything from my wood fence, wood post on back patio, my wood table and even digging. He dug under the fence eventually and got loose in the neighborhood while I was at work so now he stays in his kennel anytime I leave. He is almost a year and he doesn't seem to mind being in it anymore.

Why would you make a toy out of an item you don't want them chewing on? Seems like you are setting yourself up to have socks chewed up in the future.

Once they have their own sock (usually one that already has holes in it that I was going to throw away anyways, they tend to ignore your other socks for the most part.

That's like giving them a beat up old leather shoe and then getting upset when they chew up a pair of your new expensive ones you forget to put out of their reach.

That would be all of my socks, I never see him chew them but every sock I own has holes from chewing.

because he doesn't mind it

people need to stop "feeling" like it's wrong and just do what's been proven to be the most effective based on the research

I'll be surprised if that sock lasts more than a day

If you only tie one end, this will be the result. The dog will find the weak point and widen it into a whole until it can remove the ball. If you tie the sock at both ends, it lasts longer, for several weeks even with a large dog.

Yeah Butters crate is his safe place.

He is terrified of the vacuum. I turn it on and he automatically runs into his crate cause he feels safer there.

've never once hit my dog and he is as well behaved as any dog I've come across

when I trained him, I basically showered him with love and threw him a party any and every time he did something I wanted him to do.

He basically lives to please.

hitting dogs just doesn't work. dogs trust you and they dont always know when theyve done something wrong

This. It is so effective to use positive reinforcement it sometimes amazes me why more people do not realize it. I can take my dog outside when we gather in the neighborhood and know he will come back when I call him. Same with letting him out to do his business. Most of the people in the neighborhood have to keep theirs on leashes or they will take off straight away.

I rarely put a leash on mine. It's awesome come winter time and people are out walking their dogs. I dont even go outside, just open the door and he runs out, pees, and runs back

and we have deer and foxes that roam the neighborhood, he wont chase them even if i have him off leash, he just barks and stands by me like, HOLD ME BACK

My dogs take this type of shite as a personal physical challenge.

The only thing I can get that they don't wtfblast in under 15 minutes is a nylabone.

They have at least half a dozen now and they treat them like currency.

I routinely will see a dog get out of bed to go get water and they will reveal they were sleeping on top of three or four nylabones.

Does she know any words?

Outside?
Treat?
Food?

If so make sure you use her name when you say the word she knows.

Daisy! Treat?

Daisy! You want to go outside?

Soon you will say Daisy and she will become alert.

I would imagine this would be the last straw for you after your dog chews it.

I got lucky. I have one dog who is hardcore about chew toys and another who could give two shites about a toy.
