I was picking up from a Chinese restaurant that was way behind on orders and door dash drivers left and the orders just sat there once they were eventually ready. Can’t blame the drivers though, the customer probably blames them and doesn’t tip or tips poorly.

I have a friend in the upscale suburbs of Chicago that picks up DoorDash orders from expensive restaurants and gets huge tips, like over a hundred bucks on big orders. Probably get shite tips in most places though.

The fees to the restaurants are negotiable…I guarantee Chili’s is not paying Door Dash 30%
And in response to why are restaurants giving up so much$…you don’t really have a choice if you want to stay relevant…to go business has jumped a lot since the pandemic and it’s has leveled off at 15-20 % more than before.

Delivery apps like waitr and door dash rip into restaurants and the consumer… waitr is by far the worst… so not only does waitr take a % of the money, if you go to the screen where you confirm payment this is where they get you the hardest There is a spot that says “service fee & taxes” if you click on that you will see what the taxes are and 3x that amount as a service fee.. but it gets better so say you order 1 item from a place that service fee is say 4 dollars if you order 2 items from the same place the service fee goes even higher so every item you add for the delivery adds to the service fee then once that is done you have to pay a delivery fee then tip … I had to stop my wife from ordering on waitr bc seriously she got a 17.99 pasta dish, taxes 1.79, service fee 4.07, delivery fee 3.98 plus a tip so $27.83 total before tip… and they taking a % of the 17.99 from the restaurant

it’s a giant rip off

Seriously Bro, using a food delivery service is a luxury. If you can't afford it, don't use the service

I once accidentally ordered a single regular taco from Taco Bell on Door Dash and it cost me $11. Terrible deal in my opinion.

I operate 2 pizza shops and a burger joint in Nola. Quality control and ridiculous costs are two reasons we partnered with a local delivery company in town for a favorable rate at the burger stand, but Uber and Slice are buoying the business at one of the pizza locations so we're "stuck" with them for now. The fees are ridiculous, between 20-30% of total depending on the platform. Of course you can offset this by increasing your prices which turns a $20 product into a $31.50 product for the customer.

Also, regardless of tip history the food often sits much longer than it should and sometimes never gets delivered once it leaves. So a customer has paid a premium for a sub-par product and it negatively impacts everyone but Uber; because people keep using it.

If we could migrate all customers from Uber and other 3rd party apps to direct ordering we'd see a 3-5% increase in overall margin at minimum.

Not about affording it or being a luxury … but telling people that don’t know to be aware of this

Dominos has their fees built into the price of their product. Hilarious.

Likewise, I've only used apps a couple times when drunk, so I didn't worry about fees or tips for the convenience. Otherwise the fees seem silly for something I can do.

I have noticed a lot of fancy sitdown places are not on any of the delivery apps, and I can't blame them for boycotting if the percentages are that high.

Pretty soon Waitr and all of the food delivery services will conglomerate and start offering seemingly better services than restaurants. Sooner than later, you’re going to get a kitchen staff and a waitress and booze for 50 bucks per person, before fees.

I Door Dash. It supplements my military retirement. I'm not taking a $3 order 15 miles. So it can sit. I live in a rural area. If an order isn't a dollar a mile, it can sit.

Another issue, I shouldn't have to wait 30 minutes at your restaurant waiting for an order. Time is money.

You and the service made an agreement. You knew about their charges when you signed up.

Waitr sends me $10 off coupons from time to time, and that's the only time I order... and always for carryout.

I will let you in a little secret. If an order comes to me and I refuse it because of a shitty tip, it goes to the next driver and goes up 50 cents.

Some nights I play "ping-pong" when there are no other drivers. That meaning I keep declining it til it goes up to an acceptable level.

This doesn't take from anybody but Door dash or Waitr.

But once again, the customer gets cold food. Meh, stop being a shitty tipper.
