Well I'm bouncing out of this discussion since abortion was brought up. Y'all have fun.

A lot of them feel that they are.

Looks like LL is your next conquest.

Jesus this thread just jumped the shark.

it wouldn't be the OT if we didn't bring up different points than the original article and argue against them

Exactly. Do porn all you want but don't act like you're somehow empowered by it because they pay you to do it.
The empowerment was a small part of her article. Her article was in response to people finding out she did it (after not telling anyone and keeping a separate alias) and completely lashing out at her. They don't even know her, but they gave soooo many fricks about her doing something on her own time that is perfectly legal for her to do.
She wrote the article in response to the tons of messages and bullying she was receiving on her personal facebook, twitter, texts to her phone, and people on campus.
Otherwise, she was content to keep it a secret.
Would you not defend yourself too if you didn't see an issue with what you were doing but knew it was "taboo" and people you don't know were destroying you over it?
People were saying what has been hinted in this thread.. that she was being degraded and "railed" and whatever. No. She is choosing to do that. Just like when I have sex, I CHOOSE to have sex. Even if it's rough, I'm not being degraded. I ENJOY it. Being degraded would be if I hated it and was letting someone do it to me anyway.

yes, because all feminists think porn is empowering

no you don't. the OT says you feel it's degrading.

please show me a group of feminists that believe porn is empowering. the porn star in this article even said she doesn't agree with what feminists believe on certain topics like porn.
Many older feminist groups are against porn because unfortunately, many of the girls in porn ARE abused and don't want that lifestyle.
But there are also a whole slew of women who choose to do porn for the money, and they aren't being forced. Newer feminist groups are recognizing that these women exist and learning to accept it.

I agree. If you enjoy doing something, it's not degrading. Hell my SO slapped me one time during and I liked it.
But.....

This is where I think she's letting money be her decision maker. She might not like being peed on or spit on. But if the money is right, she will do it.

Because it's porn. It may be legal, but she's doing porn.
Again, why do you care? Seriously.. why do you care that some random person you don't know is doing porn? Because she's in college? Because she's white? Because she's at Duke?
What is your legitimate reason for caring that THIS girl is doing porn vs. all the other porn stars?

quote:I definitely agree with LL here. Then again I'm not the kind of person who cares what another person does in their spare time, unless it really is something that can hurt them. If she was in danger of getting killed or seriously hurt, then I'd maybe consider caring. But she's getting some D and making money off it while putting herself through college at Duke.

Now, will she not do porn after she graduates? One can definitely argue that she could have a very difficult time breaking into the normal work force after something like this comes out. It's a big bruise on her character when looked at from an employer's perspective.

Now you're speculating. All we can go by is what she has said. Some people like that sort of thing and don't get paid.

But this is the thing. You're saying she "might not like it" with no clue as to if she does or doesn't.
I might not like something the man I'm crazy about wants me to do, but a lot women will try something out of their comfort zone because of how much they like someone.
It's not our place to police this girl's porn employment. If she chooses to do something she doesn't want to do because the money is right, that's not really our business. She made that choice.

THIS I can agree with. Mainly because of how our society views porn. You're absolutely right.

We all do things in the context of our jobs that we find less than desirable or only do because we're getting paid for it.
