Personally, I wouldn't ask for a day off if my dog dies and wouldn't want someone asking me for a day off if their dog died. Dogs are awesome but, I'd rather them ask for a day off for personal business and not tell me.

I'd give the guy the day off, but agree he should have asked for personal time and not gone into detail.
Unless his supervisor is an animal lover and gets where he is coming from. I'd have no issue with the request.

Is this the Muslim you recently hired?

You seem to be having a run of bad luck with employees!
If he misses tomorrow, have him make it up next week during his vacation. Then you will find out how important it is to him.

I did not expect this. I just hired a very nice and talented young man who looks like a Muslim with the big beard and all that.

Since hiring him, I have had 9 complaints that they did not want this installer in their house.

He literally does come to the OT to solve all of his business problems. That's bizarre.

Another notch added to KStout's body count
God I hate being the guy to say it but this place needs more threads like this.

will you identify the company you work for so I can instruct my people to avoid your firm?

Woah...welcome back.
In the last year, I have seen more people getting busted for making up stuff than I had in the 5 years prior combined.
I have no idea if the OP is being truthful or not. If he is, probably more embarrassing that he comes here for business advice.

If he is a project manager, why is he doing the bids? Why isn't an estimator doing the bids for him?

What kind of work do you do that you had to fire all of your Mexican workers?

He owns a sh*tty gas station and serves slurpees and beef jerky to all the hicks in the area. What of it?
