I flew them from ft Lauderdale to Nassau. No problems. Most airlines are flying Greyhound buses. This one is too.

The one time I flew Spirit Air, they changed my flight without my consent; they sent one notification email that went into my junk mail. I showed up to the airport for a 7 PM flight and they said "you should have been on the 7 AM flight". They put me on a flight the next day so I missed a full day of my trip. All of the stories about nickel-and-diming are also true. Don't fly them under any circumstances unless you are a massochist.

Flew with them once -- it wasn't a horrible experience, but it wasn't the best. Definitely not as bad as my last American Airlines flight.

My company prefers us to pick the cheapest option available for flights, but we all just ignore spirit even when the exception report shows it was $300 cheaper. Being delayed is literally a coin toss, if that's an issue for you.

Spirit is a ripoff.
I only fly Southwest domestic.
If Southwest doesnt fly there, I wont go there.

All the major, American based airlines are fricking garbage. Shitty planes, shitty service, and shitty clientele in coach.
I will fly Spirit if they're offering huge deals as I pack light. Spirit is terrible but the next steps up are rather small rungs.

Its a la carte pricing. I don't get the hate, buyer beware. Granted I'm sure all of you were bitching and moaning in 2008 when airlines began charging for bags. It is just a different way to do business.
Unbundling of fees has been going on in Europe for years now, it is finally coming to the states. I am more than happy to pay for only what I need.
News Flash- This is the way the airline industry is moving, ancillary fees are a significant reason behind improved airline profitability.
It is incumbent upon you to know what you are getting into. Just like the idiot who shows up at the airport with full size shampoo and body wash in their carry on, you need to know what is going on.
If you want to pay 60% more and fly Delta or Southwest go for it. I'd never book with Spirit on the company dime, but if I'm in a pinch and can't use SkyMiles, then sure I'd fly with them.
Oh-Print your boarding pass at home, they'll charge you at the airport. In fact, do yourself a favor and read up on the fees.

And if so, any tips?
Bring lots of lube. Maybe let your significant other frick you with a strap on so you're use to it.

The plane ride wasn't bad, but I think we had to pay like $75 per checked bag. So we should have just flown southwest.

They charge a maximum of $45 for the first bag if purchased at check in at the airport.

Mine is similar. We can spend $200 more than the cheapest flight. Cuts us out of direct flights for some places. Spirit doesn't show up on Concur for me, though.

Oh, well, this was like 5 years ago, my brain is old. I know it was super expensive and would have been about the same or cheaper to fly southwest once we checked our bags. We were going skiing in Colorado so there was no way around the luggage.
