ETA: I will say. My senior year the old man pounced on me in the yard while I was cutting grass to test me. Twisted him up like a pretzel. His day had passed.
Definitely a case of what goes around, comes around. We had words at his apartment when I was 19. He squared up and shoved me. I swung twice but it only took one.

I'm a white boy with black boy speed and juke moves due to my Italian moms stereotypical short temper and belt wielding abilities. She maybe batted .156
I wonder if this is why star athletes always thank their mothers when they when an athletic award

Punched me through a closet door when I was 17, looked down at me and said “now get up and fix that door.”
Riding in the back seat of his 1966 Lincoln Continental (with the suicide doors) put the window down and he barked “roll up the god damn window son. You’re letting all the smoke out.” He had a Winston dangling from his lips.

quote:We had two cues. A snap of the fingers (which he could do incredibly loud) or the snap of a belt (he would double it up and pop it against itself). Both of those meant an arse whipping with a belt was about to happen.
All my dad had to do was touch his belt buckle and my brother and I would run and hide
He sucker punched me in the face when I was sixteen years old. Lots of thing going on in our house at the time and I exploded on him. Beat the ever loving shite out of him.
No more issues from that point.

My dad put me through a wall once, not like all the way through like a cartoon or three stooges but enough that it had to be completely sheet rocked etc.
I don’t remember what I did

Unfortunately, my dad thought the louder he yelled, the smarter he got.

New year's eve and I was five years old. A friend of my dad's had just gotten a Jeep, and wanted to take all the kids for a ride.
He took us offroad, and subsequently got the Jeep stuck.
Realize it was dark, cold, and there were no cellphones back then. So me and the other kids had to hike miles back to where the party was. Took us hours. It was bitterly cold, to where I couldn't feel my feet.
When we finally got back, I saw my dad walk up to his friend and shove him.
His friend shoved back.
My dad hit that guy so hard, his head snapped back, and was knocked out.
I once saw the old man punch through a car window because some guy was driving like an a-hole.
Another time, we were driving when a drunk driver t-boned us. My dad pulled the guy out of his car and kicked the shite out of him.

There is a long line of alcoholism on my fathers side of the family. My father had a problem in his early 20’s but kicked it. He pretty much told me if he ever caught me drinking he’d beat my arse and throw me out of the house.
2 weeks before my 18th birthday a buddy thinks his girl is cheating on him. We show up at a party we think ol slut is at and threaten to kick some arse. Guns get pulled and we find out she isn’t there. On the way out one of my friends emptied out the fathers beer fridge whose house we had went to. Parents were out of town so it took a few days but they finally got home and noticed.
The night of my 18th birthday a bunch of friends come over to the house for a cookout. I notice one by one they get a call from their parents and have to go home.
Then my dad gets the call. He loses his stuff. Yelling, threats, and then finally he rares back and drills me in the gut. Never been hit that hard in my life. I hit the ground gasping for air.
Come to find out nobody narked on me as they knew I wouldn’t steal it. A Karen mom in our grip called my parents and told them. They never would have known.
I was pissed.

I don't have any memory of my dad being all that angry. He got angry but somehow he always kept it pretty low key. My mom was the one who would occasionally lose her shite. My dad would just go drink beer in the garage when she got nuts and leave me to the wolves.

The words my brother and I hated to hear, "just wait until your father gets home"
We had a pier and beam house and we could hear those work boots making the way down the hall.
He would reach my brothers room first, pleading for mercy did no good.
I learned over the years just to assume the position.
He once built my mother a sowing table out of 1/4 inch plywood. He made a wooden paddle out of the leftovers.
He broke that paddle on us a year later.
Too be honest we deserved EVERY spanking we received.
And we got away with a lot more than we were ever punished for.

If “Pop’s” is 92 you’re probably between 55 and 74. It’s not too late to get an education.

My father was an alcoholic. Mean frickin' drunk. He'd come home hammered, lookin' to wail on somebody. So, I had to provoke him so he wouldn't go after my mother and little brother. Interesting nights were when he wore his rings. .he used to just put a wrench, a stick, and a belt on the table, and just say choose. well, I used to go with the wrench.
