I fricking love what I do, but the other lawyers and how the system is set up makes everyone really fricking cynical. Now I know why everyone on this board always says not to go to law school

Still wouldn't change a thing. The amount of pro bono work I can do in the community more than makes up for the shitty pay, long hours, lack of mentors, and every law firm trying to undercut each other.

I mean I wouldn't do it but you're obviously trashy enough to catch charges so you're already halfway there to being trashy enough to make an unwanted pass at the lady

. Reading through contracts is Greek to me.

Don't worry, you're not alone.

Any company that has a "Contracting" function/department without any law school trained attorneys around I can guarantee has a bunch of contracts with frickups in them.

I'm talking basic 1L contract construction/amendment processes. I really need to create a business just doing these basic things.

Problem is, a contract doesn't really mean anything until someone litigates it. So, what ends up happening is these contracting departments from both companies THINK their agreement says what they think it says, and they are doing what they intended, but if anyone read the thing it says something different.

Well, we all learn the hard way

I'm just not wired for poker long term. There's also a lot of ex poker pros that skipped school/other business work for poker and are now really regretting those decisions.

I have no regrets with practicing, I just know it will take me a few years to earn a decent living without slaving away for some incompetent psycho.

My deal is why you gotta capatilize whole words. You do that shite anywhere else and yours crazy a-hole. In a contract, it's commonplace.

Lawyers get a special license to yell on paper?

i just threw that in. my mom is mad at me for playing poker again for some reason

i still am a lawyer and have a gig where i don't make much right now but am relatively stress free. i have a few ideas on niche areas that i think i could market to stay afloat and build the client base up enough to snag some big cases over the long term

cheaper to let them do it on paper and get it out of their system there rather than in the court room or mediation

Not to mention big law jobs generally suck balls. I turned down a recruiter recently for a big law gig that wanted 1900 minimum billable hours. I'd rather not be a slave

No big law firm requires only 1900 billable. I declare shenanigans. You might not get fired billing 1900 hours, particularly if you're a specialist, but 2000 is the minimum they expect, and really, they expect you to do what they give you, which runs up against 2200 and 2300 hours. I know people who routinely bill 2700 plus hours. A few who have done 3000.

Agreed. They get big fat fricking bonuses. Like well over 100 grand. But still. The IB guys have an out too: private equity. Still make a frickton of money there. Maybe more.
