That is why I said tourist areas not just bourbon/FQ. FQ got mention specifically because that is what this thread was about.

Look guys, we all understand that different areas of the city have contributed to nola's economic success.

But the single biggest contributor is also the most fragile: tourism. (I am an analyst for the largest local NOLA bank. I have seen the numbers on scores of FQ businesses.)

Imagine if Rolling Stone did a slam piece on FQ crime a la the UVA Rape case. The tourism would be affected. Somebody needs to get out in front of this problem, namely, the businesses that are benefitting from the tourism and have the most to lose.

If we wait for NOPD to try and fix it, it will take years and we will be fricked.

I've been to the Quarter three times this week for drinks and dinner. I've never had a problem, but I could whoop a lot of arse if necessary.

I abide by several rules.

Never walk alone.
Go home by dark.
If a guy comes up to you, act like a retard. Criminals feel bad for retards.

Who wants to go with me?

Perfect. My gf and I just moved in the Quarter literally last night.

I've lived in the quarter before, for 2 years, and I never felt unsafe, and I had plenty of drunken nights where I stumbled home at 4 am. But now that my gf is with me I'm a bit more nervous. She walks to work 2 blocks away.

It's fricking enraging that these animals get away with this shite. NOPD needs to step the frick up.

You are right about this, but it is unrealistic to expect a rag like Rolling Stone to expose this. They don't like to pipe up about problems that are disproportionately black. They are racists who do not think that it is right to expect blacks to act like human beings. Such a piece would rock the boat in a way that makes them uncomfortable.

I honestly don't think it would matter. Didn't we have a shooting on bourbon street during Mardi Gras make national news this year ? And yet we will probably have record number of people in town for Mardi Gras this year.

I used live on burgundy, walking alone sometimes is the only option when you reside there. Several occasions I felt so unsafe I walked down the street 9mm drawn. Feels like the wild, wild, west sometimes.

I agree Rolling Stone probably wouldnt do it, but there are other publications that would.

And unlike the shady allegations of the UVA rape case, they would only need statistics, police reports, and video footage to paint a pretty damning picture. And they would be right.

I can't understand why their isn't a police station somewhere right in the heart of the FQ.

This is correct, but count me among the cynics who think there would be a backlash against that publication to the point that the original--and legitimate--message would be ignored. Of all the things with which New Orleans should be concerned, I don't think that an exposé on crime is one of them, and that's too bad, really.

And "racist." And that's why nobody will pipe up about it. Sorry if I'm a Debbie about it.
