Is it possible the coach was framed and is innocent like Harrison Ford, but the cop is like Tommy Lee Jones and is just trying to capture Harrison instead of investigating the real crime? In this scenario, the coach would have to try to evade capture while also gathering evidence to prove his innocence.
If the above is true, then I think the family should continue to receive his paycheck.

Eric Rudolph (Atlanta Olympic bomber) hid in the mountains for 5 years before being caught. He may be living in the mountains

He’s probably on a 12 month salary plan and they have to pay out per Union Contract until he is officially terminated. Which, per the same contract, is probably hard to do with him “missing.”
I deal with union contracts all the time. No matter the contract, he will stop getting paid under the premise of job abandonment. He may not be terminated until a conviction, but he won't keep getting paid. The school likely just didn't stop his paycheck and someone with knowledge of that leaked it.
The only other explanation (other than administrative incompetence) is that LE asked the school to keep paying hoping he'd withdraw some funds and they'd have a lead.
