Went there a few years ago with a bunch of buddies. We went hiking and white water rafting and got wasted in a cabin in the woods, it was great. We were up in the mountain though, spent practically no time in the town except to eat at one of the one billion waffle places.
Honestly the town seemed pretty touristy and lame, so just stay in a cabin up in the mountains away from it
ETA: We also found legit moonshine in mason jars really easily. And none of us went blind!

There are nice spots and not so nice spots
1. Get a cabin
2. Avoid trashy places
3. Profit

Hike the Alum Cave Bluffs trail right before Newfound Gap.

Pancake Pantry
Apple Barn
Apple Barn is delicious and ridiculously cheap. Free fritters AND juice
Pankcake Pantry is expensive, crappy, and doesn't take credit cards.

I'd just about give $100 for a big ole stack of pancakes right about now.

Also, find some caverns to tour. This is where I went, and it was awesome. It is about 45 minutes from Gatlinburg in Townsend, TN. Tuckaleechee Caverns - Townsend, TN

If you feel like eating a nice meal, just take the short trip up to Knoxville, try out Market Square or the Old City.
Incorrect.
Old Mill, The Park Grill, and Apple Barn

Definitely get a cabin outside of the city. We did and it was much better than staying in a hotel in the city. Pancake Pantry is a good place to eat at there. We did horse back riding in the mountains, drove up to NC to see the Biltmore and do some white water rafting, Dixie Stampede was really fun, and I remember something called Ober Gatlinburg... I don't really remember what it was, but it was kid friendly.

Wear's valley is a nicer place to stay....less touristy but fewer cabin options. It's just a long drive through the park to the restaurants and shops. Curvy and 40mph max.

what do you do spending 100% of your time in the park. Me and the wife are heading back up in august. We go do a couple trails, laural falls and such, but curious of what all else you can do in the park for so much time
This time we are doing the hike up Leconte, where you hike up one day, sleep/camp, hike down the next.
Other than that, we just literally run around the park doing the little trails and stuff.

I need help on lodging..I want luxury in a cabin..it can be in Gatlinburg, pigeon forge..I've been looking online but a lot looks the same.I want the nicest I can find

There are SO many cabins and management groups. Someone would have to tell you the exact one they stayed in. Just know that luxury is relative to price and size.
