There has been a push to classify 77-83 as its own generation since they aren't quite Gen X or Millennials.
The term I've seen pushed is Xennial or Star Wars Generation since it coincides with the release years of the original Star Wars Trilogy.
I vaguely recall it being termed Gen X/Y back in the late 80s/early 90s.

I think all generations could be subdivided like this. How different were the experiences of someone born in 1982 vs 1995? Yet the are both considered millennials

But recently I've grown some concern with the GEN X. Mirroring the mistake of The Greatest Generation in raising the shite for nothing Boomers by showering with the world and coddling them. I'm seeing my fellow Xers raising their children, not allowing them to climb trees, not allowing them to explore the city on their bikes, all the while tracking their little blue dot location on their iPhones at all times...

I believe very strongly in not coddling my kid. There's a book called "Free Range Kids" that you can get on Amazon that's a pretty good read on this subject. Being a helicopter parent is detrimental to their development.
