Does LA not have minimum service charges? No way you could get a $16 bill with Alabama Power.

.62 per day min base charge plus about 8 $6.79 charges just to be connected.

You get paid/credit for any extra power you pump back into the grid.

Minimum charge from Entergy is $12.

$12 bills are so nice...

Trying to decide whether to screw with your account for shits and giggles since you posted your number and payment on a public forum...or let it go.

I think solar panels are great but it is fricked up that part of my taxes go towards subsidizing them. People should pay for their own shite.

If they weren't subsidized, sales would be next to nothing.

i'm fairly certain that it won't be very long until the electric companies start making the minimum payments at 100.00 rather than 30.00.

then.......all the solar panel owners will be pissed.

Update: I got my bill yesterday. It was $16. My total bills for the last 5 months have totaled $120. It's probably the best $5k I have ever spent.

Yea but now you're a tree-hugging liberal commie. How does it feel, hippie!?!

Why should I care about how many are sold?

I was agreeing with your point.

Anyone that pays taxes is paying for the panels.
Take away the subsidies and considering how long the average person stays in a home, the ROI becomes unworkable.

It really is so annoying but at least the people getting these subsidies are actually taxpayers who have most likely paid in more than they are getting back so it doesn't make me crazy like some other shite. People that get benefits from the government that don't contribute, or haven't paid in as much as they receive, can die in a fire.

I'm gonna need to see some real proof before I believe $16.

I could post you hundreds of $17 bills here in Hawaii where people had as high as $800+ electric bills. Average bill here is $250.

I might order a few anyway. I will find a use for them somewhere.

I didn't look into your link too much other than to see they are 124 watts (low) and I would guarantee the efficiency is really low as well. You would need a ton of roof space to make a difference with low watt/low efficiency panels.

Does homeowner's insurance cover solar panels?

It can here in Hawaii, but not sure about LA. My brother said something about it being a little more difficult because of the hurricane insurance, so I don't know. Call your insurance and ask

Hey hillbilly, you're the dumb arse willfully overpaying the utilities for dirty energy. When people with solar break even in 3-5 years and have close to free electricity for another 25 years on that same system, you'll still be sucking from the teat of PG&E or whatever monopoly you choose to suck off.

The 30% federal tax credit does not come from you and I. It is a tax credit. It is a credit against that person's tax liability. So when someone owes $5k fed taxes, that just get offset. It is their own money.

Depending on the state, that can be a credit or rebate, even if someone doesn't pay state tax, so yes that is subsidized.

However, the whole "cost shift" theory has not been proven to be nearly as much as folks think. It can be as little as a few cents per month. Many people don't consider the more people getting solar means less power plants or "dirty" energy. In Hawaii it is huge as we import all of our energy (oil). We have 12% of our homes on Oahu with rooftop solar now and are saving millions of dollars for tax payers.

What does that matter, is that the best question you have to ask? I live in Hawaii and solar is a major industry here. Reading goes a long way to understanding things versus popping off about shite you don't know like a lot of people do on here.

ETA: If you were just genuinely curious, I apologize if I came off harsh, but people focus on the wrong things too much with regards to these types of conversations.

I thought credits are basically the same as cash, so even if you didn't owe taxes you would get a check? I could be totally wrong but if it wasn't that way wouldn't it be considered a write-off rather than a credit?
