It's hard to figure out if you have a "problem" or not sometimes. I have around 2 or 3 drinks/beers most days. I can go days without drinking, but not often. I don't consider myself an alcoholic because I don't get shitfaced on a regular basis - but I drink to take the edge off in the evenings. Anyone else do this?

Me to a T
Glass of wine with dinner, then a rum/diet after the kids go to bed. Haven't drank in a week and feeling the clarity/less bloated stomach as the OP described.

Were you drinking 1-2 drinks a day, or 1-2 handles a day?

It's definitely not for everyone but it does work for millions of people. Undoubtedly, a bunch of people are going to post in this thread that the success rate is less than 5% and it doesn't work, is a cult, blah blah blah.

But, probably only 10% give it a sincere effort and follow suggestions and actually 'buy in' to the program. So, if you go off those numbers, it has 50% rate of success. Also, it doesn't always work the first attempt but it does help you know that a solution is out there and you do meet a lot of people that have stopped drinking and their life has become better as a result. You will hear many stories that you are seeking for by making this thread. That is a definite. Will it 'make' you stop drinking? No. Only you can (and God, if you choose to believe) can do that. But it can and will offer suggestions that worked for many many others.

Well, alcohol generally makes me tired. During the week, after working all day, one or two beers makes me sleepy so I go to bed before I over serve myself.

I probably do drink too much on the weekends, but I rarely get uncontrollably drunk. Most Saturdays and Sundays I'll crack my first beer around lunch and drink most of the afternoon. Maybe one Saturday a month I keep the train rolling well into the night, but most Saturdays I'll have my last around 5 or 6. It usually only comes out to 5 or 6 beers because they're usually heavy IPA's.

You're past the physical stuff. Should be smooth sailing for another 3-4 weeks.

That's when you'll start having temptation again.

I gave it a good go. Went on my own for about 2 years, tried different groups. I just could not get over the eerie cult feeling they all were. I should have just went to a Scientology church instead.

I associated an uncomfortable day on the toilet with my consumption of alcohol, paired with my eating habits.

Good on you man, keep it up!

I've gotten to the point where I wake up in the morning after even a mediocre night of drinking and just feel awful. It isn't worth it. Maybe I'm just getting old.

Sounds pretty normal, but according to definition, that makes you a binge drinker on Saturday.

AA groups.

Hey, it's Christmas time. Don't go to your family function and be tempted to drink, come to our Christmas party and drink coffee and smoke cigarettes. Also bring your kids too,.

AA groups.

It's Mardi gras time, don't go to a parade and be tempted to drink, come to our Mardi Gras festival and drink coffee and smoke cigarettes instead.

AA groups.

It's Halloween time. Don't go trick or treating or go to a costume party. You are going to drink and revert back to your old self. Instead, come to our Halloween parts and drink coffee and smoke cigarettes.

I'm in a very similar situation as you. I honestly don't think I'm addicted though. I just developed some really bad habits. I was drinking out of boredom and trying to push down my problems. 2 weeks ago, I got blackout drunk twice in a week (Tuesday and Friday). After that, i realized that I cannot trust myself to drink alone any more. I've felt really good about it the last two weeks. I feel 100% better. Blood pressure is down and I feel much more clear headed. I'm not ready to say I'm quitting completely, but it will be only in social situations for a long, long time.

I was picking up two Four Lokos and maybe another pint of beer, and I'd drink them as quickly as possible. That habit was formed over time and with a small wallet in mind. Not my go to beverage.
