Did you read the actual article? Only in rare cases do patients that go to the clinics based on Sinclair's work have to remain on naltrexone for life.
The majority of people on it are on it temporarily, and are then able to resume drinking at normal levels afterwords.

And I prefer to be sober and happy based on scientific and medical principles, not religious ones.
There's not a single religious thing about AA. I'm not religious and I don't have to rely of medication. Sounds like the best of both to me.

Does not compute. What is the point of drinking if not to get drunk? What is "normal" anyway? There's no way to define that. Normal to me was drink until I cant drink anymore. Sounds nice in theory, but I'm not buying it.
Great if it works for you. I have zero doubt it wouldn't work for me.

How does this happen? What is the catalyst for this functional persistence of a corrective nature?

What? This is one their twelve steps:

In fact, I still pretty well cringe when the idea of church comes up.
There are lots of religious people in AA for sure. And some of them will get out of line and start preaching to an extent. I've learned just to tolerate it and ignore it over the years. It's not that big of a deal anymore. They can believe what they want and I can believe what I want and still stay sober.

Yeah, the key part is as we understand him. That means I can think God is a damn doorknob if I want. I used my dogs for a bit if I remember correctly. Now I dont even think about it or worry about. Something other than me is running the big show and I just have to do my part. My God likes death metal and headbangs to Behemoth songs with me.

I haven’t had one in over 20 years. I was forced to go to AA and man, is that place depressing. They got one thing right, you have to change the people you run with and the places you hang out.

Keep it up. Day to day small victories.

This is the toughest thing for me. All of my friends drink. "I drink because I'm lonesome but then I'm lonesome when I drink" lol

You are not drunk if you can lay on the floor without holding on

Most of my high school/college friends still drink. I've been to some concerts with them and it's both amusing and annoying when they get drunk. You start to realize just how goddamn annoying drunk people are.
I had a legitimate reason to be there though. I can go anywhere provided I'm not trying to lie to myself and the truth is that I really want to be around alcohol. I've made plenty of new friends. A lot of them are in AA. As a man, it's hard to make and keep adult friendships anyway. It can get lonely at times, but frick, I was lonely as shite when I was drinking and getting high too. So the alcohol isnt really part of the equation when it comes to loneliness
Trust me, I'm dealing with the loneliness again now. But it's not worth drinking over.
