Keep bothering the nurses.
Like they don't work hard enough already.

5 months here (2 ICU, 3 rehab hospitals) - Guillain Barre syndrome, fully paralyzed from head to toe, couldn't even blink my eyes for 3 1/2 months. Ventilator 2 months. It took another year to learn to walk, gain strength back and then progress to running again.
3 years later and I'm doing pretty much just fine. I've completed a few sprint triathlons since my recovery with my goal this year to complete an Olympic distance tri.
The only time I go back to the hospital now is to thank the ones who took care of me and to speak with others suffering from this aweful illness.
You couldn't pay me enough to be a nurse, they are such forgiving souls, and all they want to do is help you in your most struggling moment.

Butch Jones in the autograph. I'm not in the hospital bed I would gladly swap places though. Some on here know my daughter has had to battle Cancer so I've spent a many of night in a hospital room. Not a wuss just figured they would make it more comfortable especially in the oncology ward.

It's all good and I know the rationale as to why it's not like the Hilton. In all seriousness though I've gotten better sleep on top of a hmmwv in Saddir City.

I don't miss 4am blood work though.
My grandmother was in the hospital for several weeks before she passed. Myself and other family took turns spending the night in the room. I vividly remember the large black woman who would come in right at 4am, flip on ALL THE LIGHTS in the room, then get her sample. She couldn't just turn on the bedside light nooooo, she had to light the room up like the surface of the sun.

I hope I don't have to find out.
Had a bout with pancreatitis last April, hospital charged Blue Cross $7000 a day for my room, which they paid without complaint. My co-pay was $70 a day on the room. For 2017 that goes up to $350 a day co-pay for the first 5 days, then 20% of the bill after that. Ouch.
That said, pancreatitis hurts like hell, I don't really miss my gallbladder, and the nurses were lovely and clearly on the ball about reducing infection rates.

Why can they not make it more comfortable for someone to stay overnight?
It isn't that bad. I spent two nights at BR General last month. Brought my own pillow and comfy clothes though. My only complaint was the tv remote was on a cable thing and attached to either the bed or the wall, which was a pain because it didn't reach to the couch where I spent most of my time. And getting up to change the channel was really painful.

How did you end up in a coma?
I had a minor surgery that went septic. When they put me back under to perform another surgery I just didn't wake back up when I was supposed to. Doctor's couldn't figure out why I wouldn't wake up. Still have no idea but I was intubated and out for 23 days.
