No soul is leftist term to denigrate a location with seemingly wonderful standard of living. Pay no attention.

I would counter cities that reward criminal behavior and willingly sacrifice their hard working citizens with a corrupt prosecutorial/penal system have no soul.

My parents brought a lot there in a neighborhood with a private lake but didn't pull the trigger. Looks beautiful though, their neighborhood had a private lake and included a golf course membership with their HOA fees.

Downtown hot springs is kind of a shite hole, but I still felt safer downtown than almost any city I’ve ever been in, in Louisiana. The village and anywhere around Lake Hamilton is incredibly nice. If not Florida, I’d move there for sure when I retired.

Would rather you swamp people stay in LA but if this is your bag then HS Village would be one of the best places for you to retire. Prices aren't bad at all even with the market being crazy.

I would take a look at the Heber Springs area as well. Lots of golf, closer hunting, better lake fishing and you have the little red stocked with trout right there too. More affordable and a wider selection of housing options.

Think HS Village without the musty ol HOA's and better access to nature.

don't think that is far enough north to avoid heat and crime

Heat no

Crime? Yes

Hot Springs Village is a 12k acre gated community with 9 golf courses, 7 private lakes, marinas, mini golf, it’s own police and fire depts, it’s run by a property owners association. Population is around 14k and demographics are 98% white with 56% over the age of 65.

I don’t think you have to worry about crime. That’s the kind of place where a crime is someone’s dog shitting on your grass

My parents have lived there since the mid 90's. Beautiful place if you're into mountains, clean lakes, pristine golf courses. Hope I get to move there some day!!!

Absolutely no soul whatsoever. It seems a lot like Disney World. Hard for me to see how South Louisiana folks could live there.

Don't want to speak for 257's definition of soul, it possible folks are jumping to the wrong conclusion.
In laws lived in Hot Springs Village. It's pleasant, in a very tame sort of way. Straight out of Mr. Roger's neighborhood. Of course that's better than Eddie Murphy's Robinson version, but you may miss a lot of things things we have here in La. that owe nothing to Robinson's hood.
Everything I love about Louisiana: Mardi Gras, offshore fishing, crawfish boils, laissez le bons temps roule do not spring from Mr. Robinson's peeps.

Free range pit bull friendly!

(But yeah, I have fond memories of jumping off the cliffs at Greer's Ferry Lake.)

I should add that Little Rock's crime sometimes crosses into even the nicest suburbs west of I-430. So HS Village, NWA (Northwest With Attitude), and some small towns in the northern mountains (for sure do your homework) are the ways to go.

There's absolutely NOTHING to do in Heber Springs other than golf and fish. No restaurant scene, no entertainment, nothing.

I love it up there, but would feel like an actual retirement home compared to Hot Springs Village.

At the village you're still within 45 mins of the airport, all the restaurants you'll ever need, and not to mention, actual liquor stores

Wouldn't be bad. Also, take a look at the Glenwood area. If you can swing it, you could also look at building a home on Bull Shoals or Norfork lakes in North Arkansas. Phenomenal deer hunting up there.

Been going there for years.

The scenery is excellent. Golf, boating and fishing is great. Outside of that there’s really nothing unless you go to hot springs.

Raises hand

By the time I’m able to retire this is pretty much all I’m gonna be into. I won’t give a shite about bars, restaurants, nightlife, shopping, “soul”, or nightlife. That’s one of the great things about getting old. Your wants change with your perspectives.

Must have been a while since you have been here. While there are still some ok neighborhoods in that area, it has gone down hill. The nice part of the city has shifted even further west. Lots of homeless people wandering around that area thanks to Immanuel Baptists outreach center.

Drove back in from the beach this weekend and saw a crazy guy patting and talking to a light pole while trying to feed it peanuts. No place like home.
