That’s quite a drive from work, plus Beltway 8 tolls.

She plans on getting a job once we move but it won’t be anything substantial. She’s young and not college educated so it’ll probably be retail or something along those lines.

Any thoughts on Memorial City?

I've only ever passed through and eaten in that area. It looks nice but you will have pretty high volume traffic and tolls in that area. Avoid Katy Freeway if you can.

So he can find a place about 15% more than he wants to spend? Got it

$900 is going to be around the range he will find to be in a decent area. It's just a matter of whether or not he wants to sit in traffic.

My gf wants to live on Westheimer where a 1 bedroom runs about $900. IMO that’s a little much.

Just did a quick look in the Cypreswood area and see 1 bedroom apartments for as low as $745 a month.

I just have a history of being late and I’m trying to change that. This is my dream job and I don’t want to do anything to compromise it, which means doing everything I can to make my commute as easy and consistent as possible.

If I can get a 1BR for something in the lower $800’s I think that would be good.

You better tell the girl to get a job because you will not find anything in that price range unless it's the ghetto.

Get on google maps and look for apartment complexes then check rates

Failing that, Heights is nice or depending on how much $$ you have, Spring Branch/Memorial.

You can get twice the house in memorial than you can in the heights, unless you are working downtown, there isn’t any reason the heights should be at the top of the list

Westheimer isn't dangerous at all, and if rent is only $900 in that area, it's either a dump or small as hell

We’re talking 1BR apartments here. You can get a 1BR for under $900 near the Galleria.

Trust me, she’ll either get a job or get kicked to the curb.

What areas should I be looking in for apartments?

Cinco Ranch all day, every day. Maybe on the upper bounds of your commute time but worth it.

NW Houston = North BR, you don't want to live there, trust me. Not worth living in the ghetto for a short commute. Or do you want to live in a real life Death Wish 3 neighborhood without Charles Bronson to protect you.

I’ve been shot 4 times, I’m not scared of any neighborhood or any person.

I just want a decent, newer construction apartment. I’ll only be there for 6 months to a year and then I’ll upgrade.

“NW Houston = North BR, you don't want to live there, trust me”

OP, don’t confuse NW Houston (burbs 50 years ago and really sketchy) with NW Harris county, which is the area of your job. Easy to get the 2 mixed up in your head if you’re not here.

It is but traffic is terrible. One of my offices is there. I hate having to spend the day there.
