I’m about to be 53 and my hair thinning. I’d like to keep it but if it goes , it goes. My coworker does the comb over

I’m in my 40s and I thank God every day for my rich, thick, Fabio-esque mane that women even envy. I’m so vain that I don’t know what I would have done if my hair started falling out.

Your dating pool effectively shrinks.

And it's colder everywhere.

But other than that, it's not so bad.

What do the proscar do for your hair? What kind of balding were you experiencing? Was it just a general thinning out or was it balding in certain spots?

ETA: does it regenerate lost hair or just stop the losing of hair?

Very slight thinning on the top. As for regrowth, its not what I had in my twenties but I did regrow enough to where the thinning is no longer noticeable. If anything, the proscar (propecia) will stop hair loss and keep you where you currently are.

I would like at some of the hair loss forums talking about finasteride/propecia. There are some scary stories of impacts to brain function (described as brain fog) and memory loss. You are changing the balance of two types of testosterone in your body between testosterone and DHT - nobody really knows what that means in the long term. Plenty of people take it without symptoms for years, but there are a ton of horror stories out there about the drug.

And the history of the drug is fascinating to me...

Wiki on Finasteride

quote:

History
In 1942, James Hamilton observed that prepubertal castration prevents the later development of male pattern baldness in mature men.[66] In 1974, Julianne Imperato-McGinley of Cornell Medical College in New York attended a conference on birth defects. She reported on a group of intersex children in the Caribbean who appeared sexually ambiguous at birth, and were initially raised as girls, but then grew external male genitalia and other masculine characteristic after onset of puberty. These children, despite being raised as girls until puberty, were generally heterosexual, and were termed "Guevedoces" by their local community, which means "penis at twelve" in Spanish.[67] Her research group found these children shared a genetic mutation, causing deficiency of the 5a-reductase enzyme and male hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which was found to have been the etiology behind abnormalities in male sexual development. Upon maturation, these individuals were observed to have smaller prostates which were underdeveloped, and were also observed to lack incidence of male pattern baldness.[68][69]

In 1975, copies of Imperato-McGinley's presentation were seen by P. Roy Vagelos, who was then serving as Merck's basic-research chief. He was intrigued by the notion that decreased levels of DHT led to the development of smaller prostates. Dr. Vagelos then sought to create a drug which could mimic the condition found in these children to treat older men who were suffering from benign prostatic hyperplasia.[70]

Basically what you are taking with finasteride is mimicking what happens to asexual men as the result of a bad genetic mutatution.

If more people understood this basic fact they would not touch the stuff. If course Merck saw a terrible genetic mutation and their first thought was... how can we turn this into pill form for the masses.

It’s fricking insane. Just pay the money for grafts. Grafting is so refined now they can literally take one follicle coded not to fall out from donor area and place it in areas affected by MPB. Hair plugs are like 8 track cassettes. They haven’t been used since the 80’s. Anyone who uses the word plug should be immediately labeled a retard and dismissed as knowledgeable.

You can take every other hair from donor area and will never notice your donor region thinner, and you can also use beard hair for certain areas that can be extracted the same way.

About 5% of balding people have NW7 or worse MPB, which means loss is so severe grafts may not be an option. That leaves almost the entire population of men suffering from balding can improve their hair situations.

Currently hair cloning is making strides but still not ready, while PRP, Adipose stem cells, and exosomes are also showing promise. LLLT is still debatable as to it’s effectiveness but it’s certainly safer than drugs altering your DHT.

The only thing that will stop your hair from falling is the floor. Deal with it.

My hair started thinning 4 years ago (I'm 60). My wife doesn't want me to shave my head so I grow it longer on top, not quite a combover. Went on keeps.com and got finasteride and minoxidil, started a week ago. The minoxidil leaves your hair sticky. Hate that crap, not sure how to fix that. Maybe cut it shorter or just get off it. No thoughts on finasteride except my dad had prostate issues then cancer. Thinking it may help me with that as guys who take it have lower instances of prostate cancer.

Speaking of the peptide thread. I got some of that tadafalil or whatever it’s called a few years ago and never used it.

Y’all think it’s still good to go?
