I went to Navy recruiter when I was 17,told him I wanted to sign up for minority enlistment go in at 17,get out at 21.He told me Navy had discontinued that program but I could enlist in reserves at 17 and go active at 18 for 4 years.Get to boot camp and there’s 2 guys in my company on the 17-21 program.I was pissed and tried to complain, nobody was interested.
Turned out ok,my 3rd and 4th years were my best years, strongly considered staying in.

Sorry fixed it.
Young person no responsibilities a career in the Army is not bad.
Married person go in the Air Force.
Do they still ask the stupid questions like are you on drugs?
Come on man.
Then they announced drug test unofficially.
You would have to be full retard to fail a drug test back then.
Do you drink a lot?
Heck every young person in there did.
Young, few dollars in your pocket, and no responsibility.
Are you Homosexual?
They had a gay guy in my unit.
Everyone knew he was gay.
He just kept his personal life to himself.

Lol. Like i said before, i went in the USMC to literally escape town in a way so i didn’t have the 3 felonies catch up with me.
Come again? You were facing three felonies and enlisted into the USMC?

Those darn marines always had a few screws loose. Lol!

The FBI fingerprinting system they have at MEPS is not a new thing, and anyone, regardless of what branch they enlist into has to be fingerprinted as part of the DOD background check process. Facing adjudication for three felonies would certainly show up, even during the background check the recruiter runs at the state and national level.

I'd like to hear more about this too because its hard to believe lol.
I had a kid get felony charges while in the dep - good kid, one of my best - was a dumbass and pointed a bb gun at a dude who turned out to be an officer, road incident. Off duty cop called him in, he got charged.
Had to discharge him because of police involvement during DEP, but he got a lawyer and got the Felony dropped. I re-depd him and he shipped. Hes on his second enlistment and EOD currently.

Truth. Part of package is local checks and all legal documents. I'd run city, county, and as far as State if I felt the need. One record check was all that was required though.
Also at MEPS you are correct. Fingerprints will show if in database.
Theres always the background check SF-86 - Federal background questionnaire that gets filled out, and they do investigate a majority. Pretty sure its computerized now called BIC, we were transitioning when I was coming off duty.

They would not take me in the Army until I paid a no turn on red moving violation.
Then you get to your permanent party unit and you have guys that were told by a judge go in the army or go to jail.
I really do not think the Army set the bar high in the early 1980’s.

This hasn't happened in awhile. Be cautious when people say this because it isn't true. Its actually disqualifying.

One things for sure: they should NOT be allowed to set foot in high schools.

Over being an SOI instructor?
Mine got HSST'd. He was an 0311 and missed out on the invasion of Iraq with his old unit (1/8). He wasn't too happy recruiting.

Air Force and only Air Force.
If your ASVAB is too low to get in the AF, the other services will beat being stuck in a small town working fast food with not many options.

Because they get access to kids as young as 13-14 who have absolutely no idea about the realities and motives of war.

Doesn’t happen often, but I recall multiple occasions in which some mid range felonies got dismissed on the condition that the person was joining up and shipping out.
