Don't be shaking your head at me. It's a good thing I did. Remember I had been engaged before. When we went looking at rings the first ring he picks out for me to try on looked almost exactly like my previous engagement ring
Super awkward telling the salesperson "nah let's look at other ones" with him going "why not that one, don't you like round cut??"

3 carat emerald cut, platinum setting is the only way to go.

If I ever heard someone say this to me I laugh in her face and tell her to find a ride home.

if you cant trust you man to pick out the right ring for you off of a few hints and what not, then you'd be marrying the wrong person.
My wife gave me an idea of what she wanted...all she had to tell me is that she wanted a Trillion cut.....well she got that and more.

Emerald sucks. They look like glass. Reflect no light at all. Purely a fad.

Meh, not every guy is good at stuff like that. And I'm super picky. We looked at/tried on easily 50 different rings before I found that one. I mean...it is the ring I'm gonna wear everyday the rest of my life...shouldn't it be something I will love??

I picked mine out. But it was by accident really. We just happened to be at one of our antique shops when the estate jeweler was there. I saw it, tried it on, and asked after the history. He went back the next day and bought it unbeknownst to me. He had it for 6 months before he gave it to me. a-hole.

It should be something your husband gives you that you love because he gave it to you. Not something you took all the fun and surprise out of.

There are more than one kind of emerald cuts. There's a step cut which is the kind I have. Think asscher cut but rectangle.

Well that is what you think. My husband and I think differently. Since he knows how picky I am, he was relieved he didn't have to guess at what I would like. All that mattered to us...was that the proposal be a surprise to me. Obviously at that point I knew we were getting engaged soon...both of us just wanted the when and where and how to take me by surprise. And it did and it will be a moment I will forever remember and cherish. Who cares if I already knew what the ring in the box looked like?

No different than what your wife asked for? And I didn't have to ask. It's what I got and the only reason I said that.
