Battery in Charleston has been topped and is flooding the immediate area. Also several tornadoes in the area.

Ummm... You do realize that particular island is 1200 miles from Miami right? Where are you going to launch your extremely long range helicopters that don't currently exist from? In addition every place close that can provide support is probably damaged.
In addition to paratroopers, the US military has ships called LHDs - Landing Helicopter Dock. They have a flight deck to accommodate helicopters, Ospreys, Harriers and eventually F-35s. They can launch a variety of amphibious assault craft from their well deck. They come in very handy for humanitarian aid missions, as well as amphibious assaults.
Even better is that since Friday, two LHDs and an LSD are already on station at the USVI. How far is that from St Martin? And the Wasp has the 26th MEU onboard - that's 600 or 700 Marines ready to help or kick arse, whichever is most necessary.
Also, the Abraham Lincoln and other support ships are on their way to Key West to help unscrew the situation in the keys.

France imposes Whites Only Evacuation Order for those on Saint Martin
"Airports allegedly restricted access to people of color, while the local channel Guadeloupe were reported that a boat, Archipel 1, evacuated about 300 white tourists, mostly from the United States, from Saint Martin to Guadeloupe, with “only three black people on board,” according to a witness. The boat's captain told the channel that he had been ordered to do so by local authorities — but they later denied the claim."
I am sure once the media gets ahold of this, Trump will be connected to the order somehow.

Aren't the dutch and French part of Nato?
They have to request help before us or any other NATO country can help without getting into foul trouble.
I have no idea what kind of policing military forces we have available or how much is already tied up in our country's interests in the area..
You guys have some good ideas and good hearts but if you aren't familiar with military operations don't be too hard on our country for not intervening.
In '69, '70, & '71 I was part of a strike force that prepared and practiced flying into Germany to support the German Army should the Ruskies try to take over their country.
With practice, large equipment already staged, complete set of plans and for me personally everything I needed except C rats ready to travel it took over 12 hours to get on C-141 in Kansas and fly to Maguire (sp?) AFB. We did this once while I was there. 13 hours to Germany on C-141 and then ? time to be ready to fight.
Hard to compare the 2 missions but you can see why I'm skeptical about this.
PLUS this is a policing mission. Most infantry only practice to kill people and break shite.

Just checked her fb again. Still no new posts from her. She has gotten a few more posts from fb friends asking her is she is ok and she hasn't responded to them. I'll keep checking her fb and update on here if I see anything.

My god Jacksonville downtown is still getting storm surge
But The Boat said.

Jacksonville is going to be fine. It's in a great location. This storm has two option for Jacksonville. It will either go straight up the peninsula which means it will be much much weaker when it gets to Jacksonville. Or it will stay right off the Florida coast and with the way the coast goes a bit concave at Jacksonville it will keep the city away from the center of the storm. The impact will be like it was for Matthew last year if it takes the path right off the coast.

Service is absolute shite here, as you can imagine. Just had to drive around to find enough bars to reach out to people.

peej has it never coming within 400 miles of us mainland.
We need Wild Thang to tell us where his logic says it will hit.
At least we'll know that part is safe.

Heading to my apartment soon. Anyone have any info on storm surge in downtown St. Pete?
Posted on 9/11/17 at 12:52 pm to floridatigah
Yeah that is what I figured. I've seen pictures of her house....it is pretty elevated. But she had said it was flooded in all the streets around her. So she is likely just stuck there until water comes down with no power or cell service.

No information on storm surge in St Pete. I did speak to a friend over there and he said they came through fine. they don't have power

A girl I know in Snell Isle was fine and didn't get water - just some landscaping lost (I think I remember you posted your location and It was close) she said they don't have power right now though.

I made it through the night, despite the tequila and cokes.

Yeah I'm in Shelby county as well. Winds picking up a bit, I'm glad I got all those dead trees cut down last week.
We've got an ornamental cherry out back that the previous owners allowed to just go crazy. It's been on our to do list since we closed at the end of June. We didn't get to it- so fingers crossed.
Those damn trees are awful. The only tree worse than an ornamental cherry is a Bradford pear.

I think the USS wasp is already headed that way. I remember something about it, but I might be wrong about the destination.
