It rings on impact and its volume relaive to its gravitational pull indicates its density is not what it should be for a solid rock. It very well may be somewhat hollow.

It's not a huge, random coincidence. The moon is slowly moving away from the Earth. In ancient times it was closer and appeared much bigger in the sky. At some point in the future, when it moves far enough away, it won't cover the sun anymore and then there'll never be a total solar eclipse again.
