My wife tells me she would rather have bad news than a lie.
Here's how you save your sorry arse. Don't say shite now, to let yourself feel better go on vacation and enjoy the sex. Come back home and on Monday take your laptop and leave like your going to work. Spend all the time you would at work getting a new job. You work hard and you'll have one by the end of the week. Then you tell your wife and explain you would have told her earlier but you didn't want her to worry. Problem solved.

-You already have another job lined up.
-It is equal/better pay
-Your lifestyle won't have to change drastically

This. I cannot imagine all this going on with my husband, him not telling me, being patronizing with "not wanting the little woman to worry", and fricking around with the family stability this way. I really hope you do have another job.
