The Affliction wearing lifted F250 driving crowd isn't as large as this board would lead you to believe.

i agree with this...there are some nice town homes i think called crystal bay right off bertrand and also some apartments near lafayette high or on dulles that could be good for you
drink spots..tap room, happys, legends, corner bar or atmosphere and blue moon saloon if you don't mind a more hippy crowd
other fun things to do...icegator games, downtown alive, rhythms on the river

Why the hell are people suggesting Youngsville for a 24 year old?
Posted on 4/27/15 at 11:52 pm to NIH
Because people don't actually take time to read.
Living in river ranch is ideal for anyone in their 20's. It is expensive, but being able to walk to bars and restaurants is pretty clutch. It's like living in a major city, without all the crappy stuff.
If you need somewhere less expensive, Bayou Shadows is a pretty decent choice.

Get an F250 with a pair of truck nuts, stock up on affliction attire and hair gel. You'll fit in just fine.

Lafayette is a pretty good spot. I live in south Florida but have family there. It's cool.

Most folks in Lafayette are pretty friendly. If you just talk to people when you're out and about, you'll meet plenty of cool folks.
There are a lot of apartment complexes all over town because our population exploded and we needed to maximize space. As long as you don't live on the Northside of town, it's pretty safe.
As far as drinks, people in Lafayette love their booze. There are a lot of spots to drink at. Downtown is mainly late HS early college people. Kinda lame. Corner bar is a pretty laid back spot with a bit more mature crowd.
Overall I think you'll like it and welcome in advance. I hope you like food, you'll put on a few lb's when you get here.

Don't speed on Camelia!!!!! (traffic light speed tickets)
Bars: Tap Room - River Ranch, Pete's on Johnston Street, any of the downtown bars
Eats: LaFonda, Southside Bakery, Old Tyme Grocery (also has snowballs), Cajun Sno (snowballs open year round).

I gave some suggestions in a similar thread a while back, I added a little more.
Restaurants:
Johnson's Boucanerie - The pulled pork is fricking great
Old Tyme for po boys
Bon Temps
Taco sisters
French press
Broaddus Burgers - Best burgers in town IMO
Bread and Circus Provisions
Blue dog
Shade tree cafe - broussard
Fat pats
Rusted rooster
Racheals
Charley Gs
Dean-Os - Pizza
Bangkok Thai
Teak's
Chinese:
China one
Twin Dragon
Sushi:
Samurai
Fuji
Oishi
Nightlife/Bars:
Corner bar as mentioned - laffy and youngsville
Downtown - JSP, legends and greenroom are the only I go to
Artmosphere
Blue moon
Bisbanos - blues/jazz in the basement
The Wild Salmon - Hole in the wall bar, but I love it.
Side bit:
I love going kayak at lake Martin just outside of town. Very cool spot.
I'm still missing a lot, but that's plenty to go off of for now.

I suggested it because he said he was looking for a home or apartment. I was thinking resale value for a house. If he's renting, it doesn't really matter.

I'd find a place close to Red's. But that's just me.
How far north of I-10? I hear the 'Cro is getting pretty rough. But you might consider Sunset/Grand Coteau area. There is some really pretty property east of 49 and north of 10.
Lots of folks commute into south Lafayette from Opelousas, though I would not recommend that town for anyone in their twenties.
Agree with comments about Broussard/Youngsville. Hideous traffic going north in the am and coming south in the pm. It can take you 30 to 40 minutes to get from the Oil Center to Youngsville in the evenings. That said, with the present and looming oil crunch, you might be able to pick up a house pretty cheap there.

I'd look at apartments in the Kaliste Saloom/River Ranch area. The Crescent is nice, lot of talent walking around.

Live at the landing. Drink all over the place. Dix. Daqs. Tap room. Legends. Pour. Blue moon. Artmosphere.
If I was 24 and single I.d live in River ranch area... The extra coast for an apartment would be offset by the uptick in Booty call factor.

Bayou shadows is hot garbage.
The landing is the only answer for what he wants. I moved there when I was 23 and it was the best location anywhere hands down, and half the price of the shite 1/6 mile away in RR.
