Chronic insomnia can lead to all kinds of horrible health issues, and shorten your life. I've delt with it on and off for about 7 years. I had a terrifying episode several years ago where I didn't sleep a wink for nearly 100 hours straight. My heart rate was elevated the entire time and they diagnosed me with generalized anxiety. I went to the hospital because I literally thought I was going to have a heart attack. However, the scariest thing about the whole ordeal was the fear of losing my mind and becoming a vegetable, permanently. Yeah...a very real fear of a point of no return exists. You read that some prison inmates experience this in solitary. You can't shut off you brain. It was the worst experience I've ever lived through.
Luckily it was just a one time episode but doctors didn't have a real explanation, and put me on meds. But I surmise that insomnia combined with severe anxiety brought it all on. Something reached a tipping point. Anyway, it will frick up your digestive system and mess with your metabolic processes. Exercise, sunshine and the outdoors was/is very helpful for me.

Hate it for you man. I got a ton of issues, but I typically fall asleep within a few minutes of hitting the pillow.

Bunch of people in here suggesting a bunch of substances, etc. and the correct answer is stop drinking. I slept like absolute dog shite the entire time I was consuming alcohol, I stopped 3 years ago and I fall asleep within literally 5 minutes of my head hitting the pillow, I never wake up during the night, and I wake up feeling refreshed every morning

Be more specific.
One or two beers/glasses of wine is way different than a six pack or a bottle of wine.
I actually sleep better with one 8 ounce glass of red wine

Turn off the screens and read the Bible. The Bible is the Lord’s Ambien.

Have you had a sleep study done. You may have sleep apnea and need a cpap machine to help you sleep. Sleep apnea occurs in obese people, but not always.
