Was bought by another company. They decreased production due to it being a regional thing. Apparently, it's unheard of outside of La. It was never aged 8 or 10 years unless it was labeled "bottled in bond".

Nope, Buffalo Trace has owned it for awhile. The 10 years old juice has been redirected for Eagle Rare. The Old Charter is only produced for a limited number of months a year.

I keep a few gallons of it on hand. It's cheap and pretty good. That and Evan Williams are my mixers.

These days I'm all about the buffalo trace and Evan Williams single barrel. They aren't much more expensive and pretty damned good.

You mean Ville Platte baw?

I was born there at the Ville Platte clinic back in 1962 and moved to NOLA in 1974.

I haven't been there in 31 years. What is it like now? Loved it as a kid.

I heard the new 8 isnt even aged 8 yrs, which is why it only has an 8 on it vs. (8 yrs old) like the former ones had

This sounded like bullshite, but the Wikipedia page includes: "Old Charter 8 - no age statement bourbon bottled at 80 proof (was previously 8 years old)." Must be true, or the manufacturer would be on their arse to revise it.

That is just wrong and misleading as hell. They should be ashamed.

Apparently so. Several of my coworkers complain that it is hard to find in this area, and when they do, they buy up as much of it as they can. Apparently a good bit of Evangeline Parish loves Old Charter.

It was my bourbon of choice when I was at LSU, because it was fairly cheap back then.

It has changed. A lot. Heck, even the Cotton Festival isn't what it used to be.

You can go edit that page. Or any wiki page.

At one point in time, certainly the 1970s and 1980s, Old Charter only outsold Wild Turkey in a 150 mile radius from Alexandria, Louisiana.

Source? My old man used to be a wholesale rep for the company that sold Wild Turkey in the 1980s.

I kind of figured that. Most of my family is from Rayne and that place has changed for the worse. It's a shame. I have cousins in Branch and it's still the same, nothing. I still like it though.

I had a buddy that worked at Fred's back in the day. My first drink of the night there would be (no matter what I actually ordered) was a shot of Old Charter and an Old Charter and water to chase it.

It's still King Dingaling in my household. It's an "all day" whisky as I like to say. Charter and water with a splash of 7. My 11 year old step son knows my recipe

The bottle used to say "aged 8 years". Now, the bottles say "aged 8 seasons". In order for bourbon to be called bourbon, it has to be aged a minimum of 2 years. Now, does the "aged 8 seasons" mean that it is aged 2 years (spring summer fall winter)? No one knows. But there is definitely different labeling, and it does not advertise as being an 8 year any longer. Not sure how that is misleading. It is basically the only liquor I partake in for the past 10 years or so, and my wife might tell you I drink too much. I don't really notice any difference in taste in this batch from the old. And I still have several bottles of the old 8 and 10 that we bought a few years ago when we heard it was going away. Every now and then we open one and sample, for nostalgia's sake.

FWIW, I was always a bigger fan of the 8 than of the 10 or 12.
