the plastic clip that attached the handle to the mechanism that pulls the rods had come undone.

Some bean counter got a quarterly bonus for replacing a good metal part with plastic to increase Ford profits, not to mention the revenue on increased repairs and sale of replacement parts.

My dishwasher door recently broke. Was it the steel spring or metal cable attached to it? No, it was the POS plastic clip that connected them to the door. A product is only as good as its weakest link.

The over/under line was 18, and I bet the over. I think some prosecutor padded the numbers.

In Louisiana the shooting part of the CC is a joke.

Recently took a renewal class. We just had to fire 12 rounds into a torso-size silhouette target at about 15 feet. As long as all 12 went into the torso, you passed. If you missed any, fire more until a total of 12 landed in the target.

The amount of requirements at all for an initial LA permit (we need your divorce papers, arrest-related papers, fingerprints, mental health report, military DD 214 etc.) is pretty ridiculous when you consider ... you don't even need a permit anymore.

When Louisiana adopted CCW, it was like the state police really did not want to make it easy to get one, so they put in all these ridiculous requirements. That is why folks raced to get Florida non-resident permits because Florida's was simple and straightforward (and had better reciprocity). I think our FL application was one page. Then in 2010 the Loui$iana leg made LA residents get LA permit$.

Even though permits are no longer required in LA, some folks still get them or renew old ones in the event they travel to a state that does not have constitutional carry but does have reciprocal recognition of Louisiana CCW. It sure would be nice if LA took a hard look at the CCW requirements and trimmed out some of the more onerous crap. They might sell a few more new permit$ if they did.
KY specializes in comebacks against LSU.

They once overcame a 31-point deficit (68-37) in the second half to win 99-95.

Sad.

Where is John Pearson?

Advocate's only mention of him:

There is the 4% formula that is often discussed, but I think everyone has to look at the size of their stash, other sources of money, needs at varying times, the state of the market (hate to withdraw a lot when down), and (the big if) how long they expect to live.

Here is a handy calculator that a retirement counselor shared with me. You can put in the average growth that your 401k has experienced to sort of estimate how the funds will last at various withdrawal amounts each month or year. Savings Distribution Calculator

The ding on the calculator is that, even if your fund truly does average what you guess during retirement, it likely won't be steady at that number. Maybe it averages 5%, but there could be years of bigger gains (10%), smaller gains (2%), and even losses (-8%).

If you want to see what you can do to grow your 401K in your remaining work years, here is another calculator. 401k calculator
I was on an AA flight, and they announced that you could get an application for an American Advantage card from the flight attendants with a code written on it. It costs $99 a year but came with 60K miles, gives you free bags and some other benefits.

I had not applied for a new card in over a decade, but I bit on the offer, and it has been a decent deal.

The show was kind of meh/bad in its first couple seasons but then all of a sudden got really good in the 3rd.

Of course. I quit it after season two.

Maybe I'll read some recaps of the first two seasons as a refresher and try to dive back in for 3 and 4.

The best part was in the postgame when Will Anderson said, “Shout out to Jesus Christ.”

I bet Jesus was excited to hear that. “Shout out to me? In a playoff game. Cool!”

This is the answer. Piss poor marketing. They’re like the Globetrotter’s opponent the Washington Generals.
Introduces himself as a "private dick," gets her loosened up with rye, does god knows what to her in the back room, then pats her on the arm and says, "So long, pal."
This has mystified cash register folks all my life, so it’s not just young people.

One of my first high school jobs taught me how to make change. We had no mechanical register to calculate it. We counted it back, often with no idea of the amount we were giving the customer, but the counting back process guaranteed it would be right every time.

Did you buy it with a credit card? Many cards have an extended warranty program that can add a year to the warranty.

Lmao. Sounds like the farmed oyster crowd has taken over. Sad

The Navy Cove oysters I had are probably the best I’ve ever tasted.

They’re farmed right there in an inlet of Mobile Bay.
One of our biggest money makers is staying in our original home, even thought we could easily afford a much bigger one.

The smaller home suits our needs and saves money (over a bigger house) every day on utilities, insurance, taxes, repairs/replacements, etc. That really adds up over 30+ years.

It’s allowed us to save a ridiculous amount in our retirement and other savings accounts, so now we can move to a more desirable part of the country for retirement and buy what we want.

The trick is to live long enough to enjoy the savings, which is why some advocate hookers and blow at 30 and forget saving for retirement.

I swear i read about a study not too long ago that said there are some benefits to take ivermectin when you have cancer.

You may be thinking of the reports that those who took a MrNA vaccine for COVID had better survival rates if they got lung cancer or melanoma. So, for those considering ivermectin as a cancer cure, be sure to also get vaxed to increase the likelihood of a good outcome.

AI overview:

mRNA vaccine research in cancer is rapidly advancing, showing promise in training the immune system to fight tumors, with recent studies revealing SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccines can boost cancer immunotherapy effectiveness (like checkpoint inhibitors) by priming anti-tumor immunity, leading to better survival in lung cancer and melanoma patients, while researchers are also developing personalized mRNA vaccines targeting specific cancer antigens for direct tumor destruction, leveraging COVID-19 vaccine technology for novel treatments.

Ask on the Food Board, or search for the older threads on it. One of the regular posters there is with Navy Cove Oysters, and they participate in the festival. Some of the other posters have attended.

It was reportedly a shite show the first year, with huge lines. Things reportedly improved significantly in the next fests.

If you don’t want to spend time worrying about how to allocate your 401k investments, choose the appropriate Target Retirement Account fund. With you being 30 years from retirement, it will likely put you about 95% in the kind of stocks folks are suggesting. As you get older, it will slowly rebalance to a more conservative mix with more bonds.
I've ordered on the app and picked up at Subway a few times. The first time or two I tried to let them I know I was picking up for Twenty, but they just sort of looked at me like, "Please just go; I'm busy restocking lettuce." Now I just grab and go, and they rarely even look up.

I love the Beatles but they often admitted that they really just liked word play and people often read too much into their lyrics.

That is demonstrated in the Peter Jackson documentary on The Beatles. When they were writing a song, they would change a word or phrase in a heartbeat, with no thought given to the meaning, if they thought it "sounded better".
