How could an atmosphere exist in a vacuum? How could a gas planet exist in a vacuum?

I googled this and they said "this is based on the misconception that vacuums suck, it's not like a vacuum cleaner" yeah that's not the argument. No one thinks that. It is an infinitely low pressure environment devoid of matter. It is not because vacuums suck, it is the laws of physics. Gas molecules uncontained will disperse and fill the space to an even concentration. When you go into thinner air, your drink bottles swell. The concentration outside has dropped below the concentration inside and it is creating pressure on the container, it "wants to escape". There is supposedly nothing holding the gas of our atmosphere or a gas planet from entirely, instantly dispersing into the void of space. Why doesn't it?

Another explanation said that even though air doesn't follow gravity, the air on earth is stacked on top of itself creating a coke bottle suction or something. It was so ridiculous.

Refraction is bending of light. When a mirror bends light, it refracts.

If a plane OR helicopter is hovering straight up in the air at Nawlins (WITH the earth's rotation spinning at around, say, 900 miles PER HOUR), why can't the aircraft just wait out the "air time" over the SAME SPOT over Nawlins for the three hours UNTIL California arrives?

Holy shite Unsurprising though, from the guy who thinks transporting bricks on boats in the 1800’s is impossible.

Refraction is the bending of light through a medium because the light is effectively slowed down by interacting with charged particles in the medium. When a wave is slowed down, it visibly bends and this can be intuitively demonstrated with things like ocean waves.

Reflections being cast off of curved objects is not refraction, and now I know you actually have no idea what refraction is or how it works.

Yes it is. You're not correct.

Their argument, not mine. I think we all know air rises against gravity.

You should talk to the Ivy League school about getting some of your money back because nomenclature covered in an introductory physics class seems to elude you.

No it eludes you. You are in fact wrong.

At least long enough until Gaggle finds a troll post on reddit or something that will "answer" the question.

Yeah, because "troll posts at reddit" are THE ONLY place to find truth that you don't like / can't understand.

Where *should* he look, Indefatigable? In a Star Fort phone book?

In your esteemed opinion, should Gaggs search well-respected truth-sites like Wikipedia, NASA? Or just wait for the algorithm of the totally filtered Google (who officially considers "Flat Earth" a "DANGEROUS" subject) to suggest a source?

Tick...tick...tick...

Is the premise now that all the air is on the ground? What common sense are we abandoning now? Does air not rise against gravity? I don't even understand the issue anyone had.

If this isn’t a troll you are among the most hopeless people I’ve ever talked to. You don’t get to rewrite the definitions of words to craft a narrative when those words have very specific and particular definitions pertaining to observable physical phenomena.

You believe in the Spinning Earth, Sparky?

Answer IF you can:

quote:

If a plane OR helicopter is hovering straight up in the air at Nawlins (WITH the earth's rotation spinning at around, say, 900 miles PER HOUR), why can't the aircraft just wait out the "air time" over the SAME SPOT over Nawlins for the three hours UNTIL California arrives?

Why is air pressure higher at lower altitude instead of vice versa?

You really need to go back to introductory physics. Refraction, man. Come on.

Why do YOU think? Why does it rise at all?
