Get a few long range Ubiquiti Unifi AP's

welp you are the 2nd person to recommend Ubiquiti. Probably what I'll suggest then.

When I post something on TD through my smartphone, can it be seen on my work computer, which is always logged into TD's main site. :prayerssent:

You will need some kind of access point. Probably more than one.

Something like this MIGHT do what you need.

But you may need 3 or 4 from a company like Meraki, Ruckus, or Ubiquiti.

Ubiquiti is cheap, and you install their software on a computer and manage them all from there.

Meraki costs more and you manage them via their cloud.

Too close IMO, we get big arse nators. In the event that your building and offsite datacenter are wiped off of the face of the earth, you are done. And yes, in that event, if you are at either location you are done as well...

I worked for a data forensics company for a while. We had to extract data by court order for companies that were under litigation.
We handled all of the data for the Enron and Tyco trials. I was sitting right next to the guy who found the one email that would have incriminated Kenneth Lay.

Basically, they were planning a scheduled blackout on the west coast in the middle of the day on one of the hottest days of the year. Apparently the area was a retirement community, or had a higher than average number of elderly people. One of the executives sent an email to Ken stating their concern with this and that it could seriously harm or kill some of them. Ken's reply was "too bad, let the old ladies sweat to death". Our jaws dropped when we saw that.

I also handed a trial for a company out of Lafayette who owned helicopters to fly people back and fourth to the oil rigs. They made an insurance claim stating that one of the helicopters was blown off a rig by a storm. Through email, we found where they actually sold that helicopter to an overseas company and didn't think there was any way to trace it.

If I were buying one for home use, I'd go with the (not looking up numbers to confirm, but they should be close) Asus 66ac router (think that's the one you're talking about)

In your case, I'd do some googling and check out ranges (I've seen this benchmarked a fair number of places. Not always the best science, but anectodal evidence is better than none). I've read mixed reviews on what switching antennas does. I've read that "beamforming" routers do much better at long distances.

But really, I think you'd probably get better results with any old 1gb switch, 2 wireless N access points (I'd probably use the N Asus whatever 66 model router that preceded the AC and turn the DHCP off on both of them, because their hardware is fantastic and "good" APs are expensive) and a really long ethernet cable tying them together. Assuming 100x100, I'd set each one up 25ft from 3 walls on the ceiling, if possible.

ETA: Just saw the Ubiquity rec. That's a better choice.

Unifi AP's can uplink to each other wirelessly if there's no physical run to each AP. Makes them really easy to deploy.

Definitely too close for true disaster recovery. I was just one of the PTE's on his way through to other things, though. Before I got there, the server, tapes, and my office were all in one room on-site.

If you're connected to the work network, the admins can probably see any file on your laptop. If you don't have a software firewall blocking CIFS, it's just a matter of opening \\(computername)\C$ in Windows Explorer.

So there's no way of blocking a folder from any reasonable efforts to access it externally?

Each step has to cut available bandwidth considerably, no? Unless these are multi (and I mean more than 2) band...?

This is a screenshot of logged porn use by a top executive at my company. I have maybe 1600 searches stored in case it's ever needed.

He is the GM of the company. We are owned by a corporate giant, I have ammo to get him fired.

Edit: I have an armory of ammo to get him fired.
