I’m considering adding a cheap cable connection as a backup WAN and upgrading main fiber plan to 2G because I work from home.

The pros of doing this myself was that I would have a stupid fast connection..

the cons, are that no matter how fast my home internet is, the VPN for work will always be what it is (and so on for every other upload connection)

For $60mo im fine with my 1Gb fiber

Probably what ill go with too for the ports...I'm fine with my 1Gb internet but this one will future proof any additions...Im not a fan of the aio either, so would hate to get the wifi one and it be a dud

Looking at just getting a Unifi Cloud Gateway and rolling with that...Swapping my existing mesh system into AP mode and upgrading to an all u7 system eventually.

I already run pihole and honestly just want something for more visibility..Who goes where, blocking on a more "basic" level, etc..

Not worth building opensense, etc. for the price of the unifi boxes and i really dont see any other brands with the straightforwardness of the Ubiquiti system...

Open for suggestions, pulling the trigger probably Monday, looks like you pretty much get them straight from the source
Depends..

if you want dongleless (?) get the xbox headset..its cheap and it works wirelessly

If you want dongle, i use the Arctis 7...wish i would have gone with the pro, but may still upgrade

There is a reason that pretty much all major IT departments have gone to this

no

A guy yesterday told me that was far riskier than keeping them electronically on a password manager.

Riskier, yes

losing the book is way more likely than someone hacking into a password manager and nailing your current passwords...

you're focusing too much on this guy trying to be better than you...

ETA: I'm the only one here who has a title you mentioned in your post for my job at an acronym agency..

take whatever advice given here from your local BTR helpdesk nerds for what they are

If they buried fiber, you are set for life..

if they buried cable, dont bother

sounds like your issue is that you don't understand sold by/shipped by

It's not my fault their shite wouldn't consistently maintain signal for more than a couple of days

fiber has a signal,or it doesnt..there is no fluctuation...

I stick to the idea that you were having wifi issues and your equipment wasnt set up properly on your end

I dont work for Vexus, but ive had them long enough to know that nothing compares to fiber and its literally an install and then its all yours

re: Anyone have T-Mobile fiber?

Posted by GrammarKnotsi on 12/16/25 at 4:17 pm to
Had vexus in hammond going on five years and had two outages..One was due to Ida knocking the line down and they were out LEGIT the next day burying the new one...

Metronet bought Vexus and TMobile bought metronet, from what i can tell...Bill is about the same but they did offer me pretty fun prices like yours, 2Gb for $70...Problem for me is that would require me to bump up my routers and im not ready for that and i dont want their shitty eeros

anyone that says they had issues with Vexus didnt know what they had and probably was running older equipment than fiber demands

ETA:

They run fiber all the way to the modem in your house, from there, its yours to do with as you please
