Haha there are rumors that a coworker has been watching netflix this way. I was under the impression that it could still be tracked but from the responses I guess they're in the clear.

I can view any websites that were visited, anything that was searched for, I can read any inbox I want, I can view any files you have saved, I can tell what programs you have open and what programs you have installed.
The thing is I don't have the time nor the interest to actually do it.
Don't do anything stupid and give your IT department a reason to look into that.

It can - all you need is a firewall capable of SSL inspection.

This is what ours tell us.
They don't just proactively look for shite. They are too busy to do that. Only time they investigate is if a boss tells them to or something breaks.

Yep, and if someone comes to me and I have to take time from important shite to investigate you, I am going to nail your arse to the wall.

You essentially won't be able to do very much A/V stuff (youtube, n0rp, even music, etc). The advantage is that if your Fantasy Baseball website or TD is blocked, you can access them, though very likely at the expense of violating your company's IT policy and risk of your own job.

We do that as well. Only to have a manager ask for info, and then send an email to his entire department explaining that "IT is watching you and let's me know personally any time someone does something questionable."
Godamned spineless worm.

When I see the data on your assigned port spike, I'm going to look into it...

even if it cuts each by half like a traditional wireless repeater, its not that big of a deal. start @ 300mbps, first extension is 150, last extension is 75. hell the outside bandwidth is only like a 15 meg.
I agree that it's not so bad at all for a single user, but how many concurrent users are you looking at and what size files are they pulling locally + outside?

Netflixing would do that. Accessing a blocked website that's more of a "general browse" type of site probably won't give anyone a reason to look, though.

not much at all. closed network be very small files only a few users, open network would be nothing more than courtesy to customers.

We used to post a "time by website" paper on our door monthly. Our boss would take logs of all user's time on the internet. I'm unsure of if he was inspecting any particular person or general trends. It's just not necessarily an effective way of determining if someone is doing their job or not. It's pretty effective in determining whether or not they're violating company policy if you want to write them up or have a reason to get them out the door, though.

Question for you IT guys. I'm in sales now but wanting to go back to school and am interested in IT. My question is bachelor's or associate's? It seems like experience is equal to schooling for the most part. I already have a degree if that matters. TIA

what field in IT are you interested in? Ive got a degree in econ and left logistics to get an AAS in networking and followed it up with a bachelors. if you have a community college or JC near you that offers an AAS in something you are interested in, id recommend it to start off. youll get quite a bit of hands on experience and probably an internship.
eta: most of IT is experience and who you know first, certs second, degree third.

not saying you SHOULD do this but you can always just unplug your computer from company network and tether via smart phone and be like "I'm workin BOSSS!!".
Make sure you uncheck proxy servers and what not and clear shite out when done b/c sniffers and other websense type shite can find your trail when you reconnect.

can see everything that goes across the wire. if you try to use proxy avoidance to watch netflix we can see the netflix still AND the fact that you purposely attempted to circumvent controls. not a good day for you

Interested in securities. That's the exact path I was looking into. An AAS first.
