re: I’ve read several articles attempting to flip the narrative on D Day today

I must say I do not agree with the genesis of your rant. We have Memorial Day and Veteran's Day to specifically remember and celebrate the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines. I think anniversaries of major war events should indeed have time for honoring those who fought and those who died fighting but it is also the time to contemplate the battles, wars, and war itself. If not for anniversaries when is the correct time to consider things like Gen Harold L George and the Bomber Mafia?

French civilians were bombed because things like railroad yards are usually in urban areas. And leaflets were dropped warning the French about that.

But, I just don't understand how anyone can logically think in a war that all civilians are gonna be safe and sound. That just doesn't seem practical

My point is that I am not saying there are outright articles calling the U.S. evil or anything, but I noticed moreso than usual the mention of allies bombing civilians. I do not think it is coincidence and I think it is done subtly on purpose and it is written with the intention of taking away from our heroes and casting a shadow on the allies.

Oddly, the French seemed pretty fricking happy with the Allies' arrival.

Have to somehow denote that the allies, and particular Americans, were at least somewhat the bad guys and implicit in killing civilians.
What a bunch of horse shite. There were two choices: fight and risk civilian deaths or do nothing and not only guarantee civilian deaths there, but then risk deaths in other areas which hadn't been taken by the Axis powers yet.
To report on those, especially on D-Day, comes across as the ultimate Monday Morning Quarterbacking attempt, especially as those writing such drivel are insulated from the horrors of the Axis invasion by eight fricking decades.

Unless it's Sherman. Then it's cool.

It was either Nuke, or we invade and kill millions of civilians who were armed and oredered to fight to the death or commit suicide. They were taught US troops would tortue and slaughter all of them. Look at the battle of Okinawa for an example of what a Japanese invasion would look like.
Progressives really hate total war. War is hell.

Crazy how the media completely ignores Japanese atrocities and seem to focus every year on forcing the US to

I don’t think that anyone likes it. Modern weaponry and tactics pretty much make it impossible to avoid if you plan to fight an effective war.

There were no US troops in Tokyo Bay when the bombs dropped. There was still a brutal war going on and our guys hadn't made it to Tokyo Bay yet.

One thing you will never see when the progressives are "merely adding perspective" or "showing the complexities" of the issues surrounding WW2 is how absolutely evil Stalin and the Soviets were. Would probably never mention how the Red Army just sat still during the Jewish ghetto uprising and let the Nazi wipe out the insurrection. Or how the Soviets starved the peasants working the fields. Or Stalin instituted another round of mass purges and assassinations in 1942 while the war was still going against them.

They think they're edgy, enlightened, intelligent and well traveled because they have a fake degree called journalism and went on a daddy funded backpacking trip across Europe to do a bunch of drugs after their sophomore year. In reality they're of at best average intelligence, naive, ignorant and about as well traveled as the average sister fricking Gump in an Alabama trailer park. Frankly I pity them to be honest. fricking losers.

The US went out of its way , at the risk and detriment of its own pilots, to bomb ONLY during daylight hours. It is exactly why the “Bloody Hundred” earned it moniker and US bomber pilots sustained 5-7 times higher casualty rates than British pilots (who bombed at night). The US did so to minimize civilian casualties and maximize strategic impact. Any article that doesn’t mention this is biased and has a political agenda. The US ran some missions on and after D Day during daytime, but again they all had a strategic purpose—to stop any counteroffensive. War is cruel.D Day and any civilian causalities that occurred are far less that what did and would have occurred under the Nazis. It’s sad that most of Western Europe doesn’t appreciate the sacrifice we made for THEIR freedom.

Let's not forget Mao. Hitler barely made it to the top 3 biggest murderers of WWII.
It'd be easier to find an academic opinion that called Churchill an evil bustard than it would be to find one critical of Mao or Stalin.
