You can trail ride comfy as can be with a hard top...no dust gets in or anything...
BUT, I like the soft top

I have 2 JKUs right now. A few things:
-Rubicon D44 is just a D30 with a larger pumpkin. The tubes and c’s are the weak points and these are identical between the two (unless you’re getting a Hard Rock). If you REALLY want to wheel sleeve the front (skip the truss) and gusset the c’s.
-Electronic disconnect is great until it gets wet. I have manual JKS disconnects and love them. They’re $100ish
-Rubicons have sliders stock, but don’t waste your money on the lot for them. You can get them for free all day on local Jeep FB groups or Marketplace.
-Electronic lockers may make it worth it to you, but if you plan to get larger tires than the stock 32s skip and just get regeared at the time and have them put in lockers at the time (or TracLok if you’re trying to save $). I am running 4.56 Yukon’s with ARB air lockers.
Soccer moms love to get a Rubicon just to say they have one. If you’re just using it for hunting land toss a winch on a Sahara or Sport and you’ll be fine. Synthetic lines is preferred as it won’t kill you when it breaks like steel line. 9500+ lbs or you’ll just hurt yourself.
Good plan looking for 2012+, fhe 3.8 minivan motor is about 80 hp less and burns oil like a motherfricker.

Rubicons are built much better than the standard wranglers or at least they used to be.

I love my hard top. Wife is pretty small so we have a hoist in the garage to help take on and off. Bedlined the inside black so it no longer feels like riding in an igloo cooler inside.

Recommended route for anyone actually going off road.
Look at used Power Wagons, Wranglers, Colorado zR2s, or 4Runner TRDs if there’s a real expectation of off roading.

I think the hoist is the difference in happiness.
I already have a garage ceiling hoist for a camper shell I used to have.

I’m not sure you can make it to the grocery store without the additional package dude. You might have to go off road to avoid all the styrofoam cubs and McDonald’s wrappers littering the paved roads.

I have a 2016 JKU Rubicon HR. Bought it new. Love it. It’s my daily and I take it off road. I’ve been to Colorado and ran the rocks in telluride, Sicily island, tunica, and other areas. I bought the lifetime warranty on it so I’ll be keeping it. Put a mopar lift on it, winch with syn rope, 35’s, changed all the lighting to LED, and recently installed a Carsoll Android headunit.
I wanted the HR because of the steal bumpers, 4.10’s, lockers, sway bar disconnect, etc. Could I install those upgrades on a sport? Sure. Would they be warrantied from the factory? No.

Auto correct.
Caught it earlier. Changed Mopar to Moose.

Just make sure you really want the Rubicon because once you cross that line there is no turning back.

It’s becoming the soccer mom vehicle of choice.

I bought a 2006 Unlimited with 120,000 miles in August for 9,000. I live in Nashville and found it in the middle of Mississippi. I have been offered 12,000 and 13,000 by random people here. The resale on Jeeps is ridiculous.

I just sold my 2010 Unlimited in November and made more than I expected. It had engine and emissions issues as well when I sold it. But they didn’t care.
I didn’t love my Jeep but I get why they are so popular. I just bought one that ended up not being very reliable.
Still got good money for it though.
