So a life is lost because of booze and a homeowner killed a drunk dude. That's really a shite deal

It’s unfortunate, but no charges should be brought against the homeowner.

Don’t smash windows and break into someone’s house at night. You may very well get shot.

Sometimes it makes me wonder if a taser is a better home defense weapon. Although, if multiple people break in I don’t wanna be fighting them off with a taser. And you don’t have that long to figure it out.

I just feel bad for the homeowner and wouldn’t want to be the guywho shoots a drug addict or alcoholic who wasn’t trying to harm or rob me.

A well known musician in Austin was killed when a man who was mentally ill mistakenly entered his house thinking it was his own, he was one street off and the house were similar. They got in a scuffle and the home owner was shot with his own gun. The man that was the intruder said he thought the home owner was actually a armed intruder in his own house. I also knew a elderly man with dementia that thought the neighbors house he entered was his, fortunately those home owners quickly figured out the man had problems.

See. In those two situations, a taser would seem preferable. You can tase willy nilly and ask questions later. "Sorry, baw. I thought you were robbing me." Guns don't work that way. TWO drunk idiot friends of mine have broken into the wrong houses on accident, and I'm glad they're not dead.

On the other hand, some home invasions are malicious and consist of more than one invader. In those circumstances, I want more than a taser.

Alas, I've brought up points, but no clear solution other than don't break into people's houses.

Did he have drug problems or mental illness?

His friends are defending him, saying that was was drunk and went to the wrong house, then couldn’t unlock the door so he broke in. Sorry dude, but when you’re drunk to the point that you don’t even recognize your own house, and you’re not even on the right street, and you break a window and go inside and STILL don’t realize that you’re at the wrong place, it’s hard to feel sympathy.

Oh don't get me wrong, if you break into my house you are getting shot. End of story.

Sorry about your friend. I read some comments on FB from people in the neighborhood. It sounds like he could be a pretty good guy, but had experienced trouble before when drinking heavy.

They should be glad too.

I have no sympathy or patience for someone who gets that drunk. Any misfortune is on them and they get what they deserve.

Exactly. I've been blackout way too many times to count and have never once not made it home, even if I don't remember it the next day. I have no idea how you can get that hammered.
