It depends on how you define "trashy", but LC has always been the more blue collar/down to earth city of the 2.
If this is how you define trashy, the meterosexual nature of Lafayette probably is going to win this debate bigly

Lafayette has some nice parts of town. Never more than a minute from it in LC.
I have a law school buddy that has made a ton of money in LC. But every time they come over I cant get them out of my house, they dont want to go back.

I truly believe that.
As an embodiment of the state, Lafayette represents the culture much more than Lake Charles. Everything that makes Lafayette great is trashy.
I think maybe people need to face reality. If you live in Louisiana, you live in arguably the trashiest state in the nation. That's not a demography issue. Everything that people on this board say are the pros of Louisiana make it shitty.
"The people are great!" - The people are uneducated and have their heads buried in the sand.
"The food is fantastic!" - The state is obese
"We have a relaxed attitude. Laissez les bons temps rouler!" - Everyone is drunk. Insurance rates are sky high because people have no impulse control and can't fathom not drinking and driving.
I'm here as well. I'm not exempt. I'm just not going to ignore the reality.

Lake Charles is more unabashedly trashy. Lafayette is trashy but generally thinks it’s something else, which may actually be trashier than the unabashed style.

to be fair....LC is an industrial town and the guys you are seeing at that time of day are prolly plant workers and im not talking the office type
also you went to the wal mart of gyms here locally. sure its big but its cheap AF so going to attract a certain crowd especially with it not being the far south or west. A mile down the road at the old GiGis at project fit and you wouldnt have them issues
but in general LC is trashier than Lafayette but each have there good spots. But at 5am on the first day of school for the catholic schools....yea you not gonna have a lot of the wealthier crowd in that gym at that time.
