Chess is insanely complex. It is estimated that there are 10^120 different possible games. I say "estimated" because it is so complex that mathematicians haven't actually been able to figure it out. That's part of what makes a computer beating a human so significant... because unlike most games the computer can't just "see" every single possible play and generate a probability table. The computer has to use a different logic to compete against humans. (At least with world champion chess masters.)
