Did you rent? I have hard time believing it took homeowners insurance 3 years to pay out. Your child probably turned out alright. He didn't deserve to grow up in a storage shed. That's my opinion and I am not sorry about it.

He’s got pretty wide leeway from most.
$20k and a large audience is likely the last thing you would’ve needed dropped on you in that moment. Especially if you have/had drug issues. I’m not sure how a message board deals with that
but right now he’s got a couple kids including possibly a teen at home with him. Something has to change immediately in real life. Doesn’t make him a bad human but the situation is not sustainable and unlike you he is in charge of a child based on his relatives account
