I assume moving to most places in Louisiana will suck. I like my odds on that assumation.

We will most likely move back to be closer to family and friends. They are the only reason we are still in Louisiana at all. That an my state retirement.

It’s not like scott is in the middle of nowhere. It’s basically Lafayette.

Yea I agree. But if you know the state, you know there are a handful of decent places to live and Natchitoches is certainly one of them.

Personally, I’d rank Natchitoches in the top 5 of the whole state.

Start watching Steel Magnolias, over and over, to prepare yourself.

I could think of worse places to be than Natchitoches

Yeah, with small children, Natchitoches isn't terrible. Like any other town in the South, it's got its problems, but Front street during the winter is pretty damned slick. You just have to get used to the slower pace, the complete shutdown of the city after dark and on Sundays, and understand that you are an hour from anything that can remotely be considered a sizable city.

Running to Lafayette to get XXX because there isn't a place in Scott to get XXX ain't even remotely happening in Natchitoches. If it isn't there, you ain't getting it without two hours' drive time.

One of the biggest negatives I have about Natchitoches is food. If you are coming from South LA, you are going to be disappointed. Luckily, as somebody already mentioned, you're not that far from some great cities for weekend trips....Dallas, Houston, New Orleans. Shreveport,

Also ~50 miles from Alexandria.

For all the shite Ellick gets they do have some decent restaurants.

That's some big cons

We are 3 minutes form our her parents. (I like them)
and 15 minutes from my parents (I like them too.)

You're moving like an hour away, not across the country. Could you make dinner on a random Wednesday, probably not, but it's not like you can't go see them whenever you want. It's not even really a trip, just a long commute.

I’ve lived there before. Very “Ehhhh.” Not the greatest place in the world, but it could be worse. Food and restaurants scene is nonexistent there. No shows or nightlife unless you want to go to Shreveport. Small town with relatively nice folks and a family atmosphere. Christmas lights and parade and such is overrated IMO. Nice for fishing and hunting. I’d go for a few years (3-4 years) then move back.

Be careful with your school choices.

Nice houses there on cane river. The Christmas lights festival is great. Meat pies are a food group there.

If you're talking about for his kid then he would be fine as his kid would be attending NSU E Lab with the OP being an employee of NSU.

I got approached about a job at NSU. It pays well and would be a huge advancement in my career. However, it is in Natchitoches and we don't know anyone there. In theory, I could take it for a few years and move back down here, but how bad would those 3 years suck?

Married with a 4 year old. We like where we live, and my kid has started school. Any advice?

Do this. I promise you that you will not regret it. Go to NSU and meet/talk to Jeff Moore. He is one of the Assistant Men's Basketball coaches. He's been at NSU for a while. Second, go talk to Micah Coleman who is the head bball coach at NCHS. He's been there for a while, his wife is a principal at a local magnet elementary school. Both will sell you on Natchitoches and NSU. Your welcome.

Shreveport, surprisingly enough, has come a long way on what foods they have to offer and is only an hour north.

Somebody always has to open this can of worms

(I completely agree with you, FWIW.)
