Skip the corn start and make a light thin roux with the butter and a little flour.
I add a tad bit of tomato paste and a good bit of .paprika for color as it really does not add much flavor.
The only additional seasoning I would add would be a little onion powder.

You don’t have to make a dark roux. You’re simply adding flour to the butter and stir, right after that add your green ingredients, seasoning and water.

No light roux? (no excuse, you can buy this premade at stores)
And sauteed bell peppers are completely different than straight bell peppers. You have to add bell peppers. Just cook them wayyyyyy down with the butter.
And don't saute your green onions if you mean shallots.
