Wen to ponchatrain, tchefunte, and then mandeville junior. Had a good experience at public schools. Then switched to St. Paul's, had a better time at private school. Although going to the public schools was a good experience

Wife and I originally had kids in private school on the northshore. My wife being a school teacher was afforded a tour of a Mandeville public school (a childhood friend was an asst. principal there). Needless to say, that next year, my kids both started in the Mandeville school district public schools and flourished academically. If you are an involved parent, you can not beat the "free" education your taxes are paying for. We were both private school kids.

I went from SPS to MHS, and liked MHS more. The honors classes I took at SPS were on par or slightly better than the honors stuff at MHS. AP at MHS was top notch

I went to Chinchuba Middle School (Tchefuncte now), Mandeville Jr High, and Mandeville high. Really enjoyed it. currently i live on the other side of town and if i stay where I am my kid will go to mandeville middle, fontainbleu junior and high school. I'll be moving between now and then, like the other side better.

I did both.
My daughter did public school in Mandeville K - 2nd (until her classmates discussed their Daddy's hookers, unkept kids were passing on sickness and indian fire joys).
My son did public in Texas and has been private in LA 1st - 3rd.
I believe public, the right one, works in primary in LA northshore (by and large).
But, we love the private schools they go to now.
Good luck.

I understand people wanting to send their kids to private (catholic schools). And if that's what you want to do more power to you. But in this area (Mandeville) it's just not a must. I had an offer for a scholly to go to sps and my dad let me choose. I picked Mandeville because that's where most of my friends were... And girls. I loved MHS. I'm sure I would have done fine at SPS also
MHS SPS basketball games most fun games I've ever played. Felt like mini UNC Duke games.

Not much to add to this thread except: One might consider that 12 years in any one system (Public, Private, Parochial) is too much. Switching schools causes the child to adjust to a different value system, a different teaching system and to a new peer group. This, in and of itself, can be healthy.
Also, a school that is right for one child may not be the right school for a sibling. Children are different and should be treated such .. one of the biggest mistakes a parent can make is trying to treat every child "fairly" or "equally." It's a no-win scenario. Give each child what that individual child needs, regardless of siblings.

Madisonville or Mandeville doesn't matter where you are, Covington is good if your south of the 190/Tyler St. but I still think that area is Covington High territory, I think the new Covington High line is Brewster. Stay south of that.

We moved to Madisonville a few years ago and started in Private as that was what my wife and I both attended. We gave the public a try and have never looked back. It has been an awesome experience. We may go back in high school unless they build a new one in Madisonville.

I've seen two "negative" comments in regard to CHS. What's the story there?

Covington High sucks.
As for the rest of the high schools, try to take as many honors courses as the kid can handle. It makes a big difference.
