Perfect location. Well done.

That seems to be the consensus. Thanks to everyone for that.

Now I need to make a list of things to see and do. Lots of good suggestions here already and it's much appreciated.

The crawfish boil sounds like an awesome idea. Mud Island will be something I check out as well. Gibson will be a no-brainer as well. Need to find out times etc. Graceland? Meh, not too interested but that may be a great place to see some music history so I'm not counting it out. Beale St. will definitely be a night or two of entertainment. Am I wrong in thinking it will be similar to 6th St in Austin?

I'm ready to just pull the trigger and buy tiks to the baseball game, but still not sure on where to sit.

Anywhere is good. I'd look at dugout seats, but that's just me.

Thanks Red. You ever been to this ballpark?

Speaking of ballpark, I just got a notice in the mail Friday for a parking ticket when we went to that Stros game back in 2010. WTF?

yes.

It's not going to be a college crowd. you can drink on the street on barhop. imo the best music acts are at Blues City.

wait. the hotel may give you some. tickets aren't difficult to get.

seriously check on the Zoo the same day as the crawfish festival.

If you go to Graceland go early. You do not want to be in that part of town at night FYI.

How pedestrian friendly is Memphis? Should I rent a car? I called amex concierge yesterday and the lady sent me quite a list of things to do and restaurants etc. I'd post it but it's quite a laundry list of stuff and the .pdf is 39 pages and the email is quite wordy.

I lived there for a while and still visit a lot. Peabody is overrated and overpriced. Stay next door at Double tree and get a bigger/nicer room for half the price. Still walking distance to Beale street and down town memphis. I didnt read the whole thread but there's plenty to do to fill up a weekend. Beale street, Graceland, Red Birds baseball ( a great triple A park. Sit above the outfield on the grass for $5 and eat BBQ nachos), Grizzlies basketball, Tunica casionos/concerts, memphis in may BBQ/music festival.
Make sure you eat at Corky's and Hueys. Skip Rondezvous.

Doubletree across the street from The Peabody and Auto Zone Park. Walk to Beale Street. Take a Back Beat tour with Memphis Jones. See the Gibson guitar factory. The Underground Railroad Museum is a real gem.

Seriously? Did you really just recommend Corky's?

Go to the Zoo, for sure. Panda bears are awesome. Just sit around eating bamboo not giving a care in the world. And hey... you can pet stingrays and sharks now. It costs extra, though. And ride a camel. Which, of course, also costs extra.

Also, take a tour of St. Jude.

To each his own. And hey... any BBQ is better than no BBQ.

Which reminds me... like I said, take a tour of St. Jude, then run down the street to Cozy Corner and get some bbq.

I can imagine it's a powerful experience. We've donated our time at the Ronald McDonald house in Galveston before and while moving, it can sometimes leave you feeling sad. I just don't want to make the trip a sad event for the SO. What's the opinion in that regard?

Rent a car or no? I can't tell how easy it would be to get from the Peabody to things like Overton Square and Mud Island etc. Beale looks walking distance for sure, but the zoo and other places?

Is there a tram or light rail in the city?

I'm sitting 119 South Main right now.

I've only been stabbed twice.

Mud Island and everything downtown is walking distance or you can take the trolly.

A trolly does run close to Overton, but not close enough.

Catching a cab will be about 10 bucks and easy peasy from The Peabody.

You will want to do this during daylight hours. If you go there get the BBQ Cornish hen.

Awesome, I was hoping for something like this. Didn't want to worry about drinking too much at the Crawfish Festival and then have to drive a rental car. I won't be renting a car. Much appreciated.
