I settled on the Gillette 7 O'Clock (Russian Green)
The more I look at the pack I bought, the more I realize what terrible razors were in it. I don't actually have Gilette 7 O'Clock razors. I have this green set of "7am" blades that only come in that pack. WTF?

Some will bash all cartridges. I won't. I still use a gillette fusion, schick hydro, and also do dollar shave club. The cost is just ridiculous except for dollar shave clubs, but their blades are not quite as slick.
If you like them keep using them. But you are robbing yourself by not using better creams. The cost is THE SAME. it's amazing how little of a dab of Taylor makes enough lather to shave twice.
CO Bigelowe is easy to find at bath and body. Kiss My Face is sold in some groceries also. Whole Foods here being the main one. Bigelowe is ten bucks and KMF is seven to eight bucks.

Yeah, I didn't like the 7 am, either. The Astras are the winners in your pack.

I believe the Sensor was probably the best all around cartridge from a cost/performance standpoint.

I use a cartridge to shave my head - in a Headblade handle. I have touched up with my DE, and I could do it if I had to. I may try a Feather Artist "shavette" down the line for everything - but for now, Headblade on the dome, and Merkur with Gillette 7 O'Clock on the face is working pretty well.

Shark Super Chrome isn't bad at all, but the stainless Astras are definitely the top of all those. I've even quit sampling. Unfornately, now I have about 90 razors that won't do anything more than clean things a Brillo Pad cannot.

I try to abide by the "if you are going to do something everyday, you might as well take the time and enjoy it" rule. So, with that said, I enjoy a good wet shave with a safety razor, badger brush and bar of shaving soap. Does it take a little extra time? Yeah, but maybe for a couple of minutes. At the end of the day, you are just shaving your face. Do whatever you enjoy the most.

I've been on the Dollar Shave Club's $6 razor for a while now. But I grew my beard out last fall, and have only been using it to tidy up my neck and cheeks about once a week. I'm going back clean shaven in a month or two, once it warms up, so I'll definitely be checking this thread out then for all the advice on creams, razors, and blades.

As someone who shaved their legs in high school for tape... its harder to shave a knee and ankle than it is private areas. Female or my own. Lol
100 derby blades on amazon are like 8$ delivered.

Well I finally bit the bullet and ordered all the things i had on my Amazon wish list...
Hope to be able to report in on Monday with a report on my first DE Razor shave.
I went with the following:
Edwin Jagger De89
TOBS Sandlewood and Proraso Green Cream
Escali Deluxe Stand
Escali Badger Brush (went kind of cheap on this but it had good reviews)
Astra Blades (30ct) to see if i like them

What I thought too. I could go almost a year on 30, and I have a really coarse beard. I'm digging my Feathers now that I have some experience. The only thing I might think about adding in the future is a slant bar, but that will be down the road when I can do a regular DE shave in my sleep.

Just ordered similar stuff. Got a variety pack of blades though. You will enjoy. The tobs sandalwood is awesome.

figured I would bump the thread.
After using a DE for about 5 days now first impressions.
No cuts or nicks and shave has been smooth.
Derby blade that came with my Edwin Jagger lasted me 4 shaves, should have really replaced after 3 shaves but it got the job done.
Proraso Green is intensely refreshing
TOBS Sandlewood is a very nice
My cheap badger brush lost some hairs the first couple of shaves but that seems to have stopped now.
Aftershaves I have been rotating between Old Spice and Clubman
Still waiting on my Astra Blades to come in.

Go to Whole Foods and get some Apricot Kernel Oil and rub it in after the Aftershave - in 20 minutes your face will del as smooth as a babies butt!

Gillette razor? I'm looking for a new razor, but I'm not ready to leave cartridges behind. I have started using shaving soap in favor of shaving cream, and I'm very happy with that.

Update.
First DE shave complete. Not bad. Usual carnage around Adam's apple. By then I was cocky and nicked it. Before I rinsed and got it bleeding I thought I was ready to chop down trees myself and impregnate my pre/peri menopausal wife in the same afternoon. Then.....the truth reared it's ugly head.
Not baby butt smooth but not bad.
Razor is a 1965 Gillette Tech with Taylor's avocado applied with brush. So I can't blame products.
